General Discussion / A Camera or A flasher
« on: February 11, 2013, 08:17:21 PM »
Well I have owned a camera for years. I just bought a flasher this year bit have used a friends many times. This is a tough question to ask myself. I have learned many things by actually being able to see what is going on under the water. I have also learned many things about structure and how it reads on a flasher by using my camera that being said. I would expect many more votes to register for flashers as this is the most common electronic on the hard water. But that is why this is a poll for all us ice junkies to post our vote and  voice our opinions. Aren't polls great.

I have to believe we will be back on the ice before spring. After all my new vex just arrived today. Was itching to use it so bad I drilled a few holes by the dock and tried it for about an hour. I think the vex used with my aqua vue scout will be a deadly combination.let's hope it doesn't get to warm or rain to much on sun/Mon.
On a side note I went to CEI today to catch some steelies and to my dismay the entire area was covered in shove ice. Ice to thin to fish on and to thick to fish through. Just my luck.

I haven't been through the ice luckily. But while fishing the vermilion river after ice off I have stepped into a few wash out holes that were deep enough to fill my chest waders without touching bottom. I fully understand the "I know I got out, but what happened" feeling. It isn't fun at all. And don't ever think that just because your cell phone is surronded by neoprene it won't get wet. Glad you got out safe.

Damn valentines weekend! It must be a hard life for an ice junkies wife.
By the way no ice this weekend so  I mopped the floors and dusted the entire house. I know it won't actually make next weekend easier but I gotta try :D

Well I had to check. Wondered how bad the snow hurt us. I must say it hurt bad. We haven't even gained a measurable amount of ice in a 24 hr period. I hope the snow is heavy enough to get wet then freeze even though it will leave with the first warm spell or rain. If it doesn't get wet and tighten up it may insulate the lake so much that we don't make fishable ice. We must hope for the lesser of two evils. I will update again tomorrow afternoon

Anyone been able to check the ice. I heard they have decent ice on the north side but would like to confirm before making the hour and a half drive.

The worst part is the snow is killing us. In 24 hr period my home lake didn't even gain measurable amount of ice. At best the ice we get by next weekend will be mostly white and turn to crap with warm temps or rain which both have plagued us this year.

Spencer lake / 2/1/13
« on: February 03, 2013, 09:19:46 AM »
Well I checked Spencer on 2/1 around noon. There is an 1-1/4" on the edges of the south side and 1-1/2" on the north side. The north lake looked very wet on top. I m guessing it will have good ice before the south side. 2" of snow on either side. Both will probably be fishable on Wednesday. I will have another report on Monday or tuesday. I will try to check today I am curious how wet the top got And when it will tighten up. The entire lake is iced over.

I have a camera and would love to let you use it. Much knowledge can be gained from actually seeing what you are fishing. PM me if you are interested.

Thanks to everyone who took part. I think we can all say if your lake is in Ohio and public it is very unsafe this weekend. I will post the Spencer lake conditions report shortly. For now I am going to clean the house and gain some " wife of an ice fishing junkie" points for next weekend.
It may contain a lot of hard water fishing.
