I would say overall fishing has been more consistent for numbers out of crane creek. Catawaba has been more spotty but overall bigger fish with some great reports. Seems both location people are chasing the fish more north. Not saying you can't find a great bite within 2 or 3 miles out of Catawaba. Some have. If going out of Catawaba,  areas to watch are the cliffs to the east right off the ramp. The path swings clear away to the west southwest then north and east if that's your direction.  Heading to the east towards mouse island is a very productive area but also one of the most dangerous.  People launch out of miller ferry over that way at a very high risk and most experienced people stay away from that area no matter what. Its a high current shoot that has swallowed at least 6 machines this year with one just last week. There is a main working crack running parallel to shore about a 1/2 mile out often referred to as the 911 crack. Its there every season because of the way the Detroit n Maumme river current flows. Wind speed and direction need to be seriously considered everyday.

iwindsurf. com   is a great wind site to use with locations all over the lake and hr by hr info. 70% rain n thunderstorms on Thursday is going to make it a mess. I often will actually wear my waders on the ice when its that wet. Bringing a extra pair of boots for fishing and one for traveling is another good idea if no waders. Extra gloves, garbage bag my vex n other gear for traveling, stuff like that.

Just trying to help all I can. I think coming down and camping out is really cool. With a handicapped person even cooler. My uncle Mike is in a wheelchair and I've fished that lake with him my entire life. Now they have a sweet swinging lift right on shore next to his boat to aid in getting him in. Its great. Anyway, hope the weather n wind n fish align for you guys to have a great lake Erie ice experience

3 to 5" of snow tonight. Warm up and rain this week.  wind is the x factor. There are a few working cracks. One right off shore and a few out. A strong off shore south wind is not good. These cracks will be tight on your first cross and way open when returning.  I would really watch the Weather and reports on here, Ohio game fishing lake Erie board, and whatever else you can gather. It should turn into a real sloppy mess out there with all that snow, making traveling across the ice very difficult.  be prepared to have all your gear ready for running in 6" of water. You go to leave after fishing all day n night n day again to find your little house is frozen in. Just giving you a heads up. Be totally prepared for anything. Its a different world out thereThere n very dangerous

Wow. That sounds awesome.  little crazy but why not. A lot can change between now and then but........I would go out of magee marsh wildlife area. Aka....crane creek.  It has a interstate of a road heading out to the fish. Very travel friendly.  About 4 miles out is the main shove. Crossing has been very good. Once across people have been shooting out in all directions and here travel gets harder. Snow is about a foot deep with some deeper drifts. 4*4 with chains or snowmobile is what you really need if you want to go crazy. I'm sure following a path out about another mile or two will be ok for you. Fish seem to have moved out. A mile past the shove is good grounds. Try to get away from the main packs some.

I also would not recommend going out of miller ferry area. Those shantys u see north of mouse island are mostly guides that ran out way west and north coming from catawaba or from south bass island. Look on ogf.  several horror stories from that area one just happen the other day where the quad,  all gear, and there walleyes,  including them went into the drink. Thankfully no loss of life. I know at least half a dozen machines have goons in over there in the past few weeks. One guy was just fishing there last week on 6" of clear n 6" cloudy ice.  yesterday he said all clear ice is gone. Just cloudy crap.  that area is high current area and most any experienced guy stays clear of that area. I know people are doing it, I know they are catching fish, however fishing is good off catawaba and crane creek.  why risk it.............don't die over fish. ! Literally

I would not attempt to ice fish lake Erie off either location. You would be the only one I can assure you. Ice not safe there.

We had mostly males. People around us were catching the big girls but not us. Had several groups of friends that fished catawaba all weekend and did not do well at all. Seems some did find fish over there.

Ran west northwest about 4.5 miles today in the swamp. Boy o boy was the gear wet n slopy after that drag behind the snowmobile.  set up in 21 fow and smoked um. Me and a buddy were done by noon. We each lost 10 each loss hooked up fish also today  If we could have hooked all that we marked we would have had 60 of um. Very very picky bite. Had to work the hell out of them. We both settled on a program of 1/2 oz do-jigger blue chrome on one rod, and #7 firetiger rappy on the other. Each did well.

We fished 3/4 mile north or Clinton reef. One click west. Machines must be tagged n they are out checking. Catawaba state park. Map quest it. Not many perch. Better by islands. Everyone I talked to today crushed um. 4 miles outta crane,  1 mile out of miller ferry, and near green. Good luck. Just picked up a buddy snowmobile. Sunday I'm going. Hope you guys get um.

Wow I did it. Resized a pic and posted it :-) Now if I could just spell.

So here is my report. Sorry its late, I just figured this out. Fished 2.2 miles west northwest out of catawaba last weekend.  Set up at 9:30. I iced a 10.5 lber in 10 min and follow that up 10 min latter with one just over 11. I was freaking out. Thrilled.  The bite was steady enough to keep us there till dark.  Ended up going 11 for 20 with 4 over 10 lbs and 1 just under.  my hot lure was a 2/5 cleo in the hammered blue/green loaded with minows ripped and free fall down.  That got 8 of my 10 bites.  My dead stick minow rod did nothing so I put on the smallness rap I had that would hold bottom.  A tiny #3 firetiger rappy.  dead sticked it 2' off bottom.  I did this after having 3 or 4 big marks look and take off as well as a smaller perch mark or 2. Next good mark would not bite the aggressive spoon so I reached over and wiggle wiggle the rap and wam!  9 lber :-) Also caught another that way. My buddys pulled fish on #5 pimples in chrome n blue and orange.

We fished 21 fow,  water super clear, current not bad and would change speed and direction throughout the day. Fish seemed to bite just before,  during,  and after current change. Ice was great the entire way out. Had 10" plus everywhere we drilled.  Went out next day and almost sunk the quad 100 yards off the beech,  just east of the x mas tree trail. Cracks open there and the snow and cold hid them. Its an ever changing landscape up there so go slow and be careful.  It freaked out my buddy so bad, he was done and we went home never fished. Oh well. Be back this weekend.  I'm working on more pics if:-)If
