Take a look at the 10 day forecast the countdown begins
-
yes yes it is ;D
-
Can't wait! Should be on somewhere in the next few days!
-
I should be off my meds by then plus I'm certain I'll get a few day passes from the asylum.
-
72 straight ice making hours and very little wind! 18 degrees at 8 AM here in Copley! Hopefully some early spots will be safe by Friday.
-
With scheduling, Tuesday is the first day I can be on the ice. But it looks like I'll be on Mogadore or Nimi by Tuesday morning!!!!!! ;D :o :D
-
moggy is all skim ice .complete coverage as of 10 am
-
when I was at wingfoot sat in my boat the surface temp was 36.8, it wont take long to freeze. I know im getting tired of limbo .
-
Should have safe ice before long. Can't wait. Figures it won't happen while I am off work.
-
??? What do you concider safe ? Im as worked up and frustrated as anyone else , but please use you heads . Safety first people , spuds , picks , rope and Never alone . All I want to hear about any of you is how well your doing catching fish .
-
Safe is always relative, no one seems to be advocating others taking risks. Safe for me is 4" and a type 1 life jacket on, picks, rope etc. and checking areas that aren't over my head if I do go in. Plenty of excitement over a long awaited cold snap. But with the reports coming in, some areas will be 4+ by Friday at the latest. By the end of next week, most inland should be 5" plus and okay for foot travel. Probably safer than fishing from the boat has been with 36 degree water temps.

Agree with stone yes, safe to me is 4+ inches of clear ice. But remember no ice is guaranteed safe so be smart and take precautions when venturing out. No fish is worth risking your life for.

Drove around Nimisila near 4pm on 12/31. Main body of lake was open. Bays were starting to get iced up, but a strong SW wind was keeping C6, C5 (Campground Bay) & C1 bays 50% open. Stacked up at C1 showed some promise of icing over completely.
Last night's temps were conducive for ice formation. I wouldnt be surprised if most of Nimmy was completely ice covered today (New Years Day).

I just hope the wind didn't retard the ice making process. I let the dog out at 1 in the morning when I went to bed and it was howling out. Some places protected from the wind, or the ones that were already skimmed over will be ready by tomorrow or Saturday, if not this afternoon, the rest of the waterways will be ready in a week for sure!
-
Take a look at saturdays weather forecast . Rain and over 40 ,not good . Let's all pray the rain is light it better yet passes us by .
-
Will do a drive-by at OSP (Old State Park) today to see how it's icing up.

I envy your optimism my friend!! LOL

Early weather forecast for next week looks promising. Near Dayton.my hopes are high just waiting to see what reality has in store for us. I know we will have an ice season. Just wondering when and for how long. He for the best.
-
Well guys it looks like this weekend might try to ruin the precious ice forming as we speak! >:( Saturday is forecasting rain and 49, Sunday in the 50's. Maybe it will pass us by, time will tell.
-
Oh well. We can watch football this weekend and have good ice by the end of next week. The forecast looks good long term after this weekend. I can't be on ice until Tuesday or Wednesday. But the last 2 weeks of January and the first 2 weeks of February I'll be able to fish almost every day for sure! We need good ice by then. ;D
-
My buddy ice fished today in NW Ohio 2 inches six feet of water in a small public pond! He said it was worth it for the slab crappies! lol He is crazy!!
-
He is crazy and totally risked his life...what are the GPS coordinates :)
-
Well hopefully he just slid across on a small Jon boat and jigger that six foot of water! 2 inches of ice seems like more of a death wish than just being crazy! PLEASE everyone be safe and use good judgment, uncle Sam needs your taxes to keep this party going. ;D
-
I know when I read his post it made the hair stand up on my neck... :P I just checked out wingfoot,moggy,springfield..... 8) a lot of open water all over but the ice was about 2.5 avg.. I jumped up and down on the ice at wingfoot launch.. nice thing is its clear , good for a starter base...
-
I checked 2 farm ponds And what is left of Shreve lake ( they drained it to fix the dam) here in Wayne county 2 1/2 inches clear ice.
-
Today sucks but next week rocks -2 overnight on wednesday
-
Highs in the teens and lows below zero may undo this rain and warm spell damage. I may try to get on the ice on Wednesday.
-
Well, my pond made it thru the rain yesterday. Still locked up and with temps in low teens tonite, it will make ice quickly. The only thing to watch today as the temps drop will be the high winds that are forecast. May cause unprotected areas to open up. This week in NW Ohio, they are calling for some negative overnight temps with highs in the single digits. Have to watch as they are calling for 4" to 7" of snow by Tuesday morning. We don't need that much snow on top of the ice yet; at least until we get 5" - 6" of ice.
Well, time to put the finishing touches on the ice gear, make sure batteries are fully charged and make a trip to the bait shop.
Bring on the ICE!!!! :)
-
Nice & Frigid Monday Night, 1/5. LOOKING GOOD!
-
Springfield is locked up!!! I hope to be catching slabs on Saturday.
-
im ready , more ice, more ice ;D
-
These frigid temps are great. I just hope all this snow don't hurt us. Crusty/honeycomb/insulated ice is not good. Be careful all! :-\
-
Great news is the snow came when it was cold and dry air so its not wet insulating snow. better news. the 20 mph winds should have blown access snow off. black ice will be gone though :(
