Small Pond Reports / Private Pond 12/28/13
« on: December 28, 2013, 06:37:34 PM »
Fished a private close to my house today from 10:30 to 2:30. 3 to 5" of ice. Fished in 13' of water. Water stained. Caught 40 gills and kept 31, 7-1/2 to 9-1/2". Lost 3 nice fish on 2# test, not sure what they were but I think bass. Caught most of the fish on medium yellow green tear drop with double flutter blades with waxies. Through out the column from on the bottom to 3' deep. Nice day to be on the ice. Snow turned to water by the time I came off.

I like not having to deal with skiers, jet ski's and pleasure boaters when I'm fishing, fewer people and some of the most friendly fishermen are found on the ice.....

Welcome guys! Glad to have you aboard. Knucklehead we'll have to get together & fish Wauseon. Do you fish upper or lower?  I used to fish it when I lived in Lyons. Also fished Delta. :)

Batteries are 12 volt, 9ah, so you can go to Walmart and get a motorcycle trickle charger with small alligator clips. ;)

I'm having same problem. May be a site situation that requires administrator to approve all pics before they appear.  I uploaded on my laptop and tablet with no luck yet.

Meet The Pro Staff / Re: Welcome Handymanjeff to the Pro Staff!
« on: December 18, 2013, 05:28:55 PM »
Thanks everyone! Looking forward to a good year on the ice after the last few years of not much ice up here. Will keep everyone updated as to what's happening up here. Barton & McKarns lakes were old gravel pits that ODNR took over a few years ago. Will give the lowdown on these as soon as they're listed under the lakes.
Glad to be aboard & hoping to meet some of you on the hard water!!!

Just got 8.5" of snow over last few days. Not Good on top of the ice. Weather calling for 40's Thursday & Friday with rain Thursday, Friday, Saturday & heavy rain on Sunday....  :(  So much for much chance to get out this weekend. At least will get snow off the ice. Was hoping to hit Nettle Lake for Crappie. McKarn & Barton Lakes were wide open last week.

I have done well in the past for crappie & gills. Haven't been up to check ice yet. Today we're getting hit with up to 9" of snow. Barton & McKarns was wide open on Tuesday. My pond's been covered with snow for over a week and only 2-2 1/2" of black ice yesterday. Hoping to get by Nettle this week to check.
