Just not ready yet fellas. 2" on a gravel pit pond (3" in one small section) and wet snow on top of the ice where the wind stacked it at the North end.
Several people were able to get out this weekend and drill some holes. Met up with some cool fellow ice fisherman. Ice conditions were different at several locations and across the lakes themselves. We were lucky enough to find 4" in a bay. But the rest of the lake was still very thin ice. We just stayed in a known area. The snow made it difficult to see and judge the ice. Be careful out there and enjoy! Don't forget your ice picks and Artic Armor suits.
Just saw this and think it will be my next purchase! I have been a cabin style shanty guy because I love having a floor under me. But always felt it a pain to be mobile. Tear down and set up takes forever in a cabin style compared to the flip over shanties. I just can't stand putting my expensive electronics, feet, gear and heater on the bare ice. Throw in a melted slushy surface and you have a mess in your shanty. I think Shappell found the perfect solution for me. It even has a sliding bench, electronics shelf and all folds into a mobile tub! Very cool idea. http://shappell.com/iceshelters/bayrunnersledcabin.html
I'm done! Putting the shanty up and dumpin out the bait puck! All my gear is sitting silently on the shelf and the Vexilar has been charged up and waiting for mid year recharge. I have had a great short season. Made some new ice friends and even got to take a trip out of state! I wish you all the best spring crappie bite and a hot summer of catfishin'. Robins are chirping and softball practice is starting. A sure sign of spring. I have spotted a few groundhogs stretching their legs and decided to grab my varmint rifle and persue my other passion. Please post up your spring hog walleye pics cuz I will be lurking this awesome site! Take care guys, I am out! -Minnow
Just grabbed this since it was on sale. Collapses flat when I'm done and stows away nicely. Got it for my trip to Michigan next week. Figured it would be nice to not have to keep my gloves, bait puck, jig box etc. in my pockets or on the floor. Most importantly, it has an adult beverage holder built in!
