Buckeye lake / Re: Buckeye Ice 1/13/2016

Tiggy2 you will find some guys on here wont help u find where to go. Its a big lake and its full of fish. A few of the guys even say they wont tell u because their ice fishing guides, andddd there not. I murder the saugeye out there, head to fairfield beach and go out across the lake and fish next to the marsh island. 7 to 10 ft of water, tip ups and bass minnow work great. Jigs with bass minnow and vibes work good also. For gills head into the shallow coves, i catch em in 2 to 4 ft of water on wax worms. Good luck!

You are absolutely right man.  One specific guy I ice fished with several seasons gave me that same story last season.  The past few years have been spotty for me as far as ice time goes so I hadn't been out like I was 5 years ago due to 2 new youngsters.  This guy who is a "pro staffer" here said he would guide me but not just fish with me.  I know what I'm doing but haven't spent a lot of time on the lakes lately and like the company on the ice.  Oh well, it's just fishing man no big deal.  Sometimes friendships you make fishing can last other times acquaintances are just that.

Tight lines and stay safe!

Thanks for the report.  I'm planning on hitting it sometime later this week for sure.

You know of anyone fishing Blackhawk yet?  It can have more flow and usually takes just a little longer to get good so I was curious.  Being a 45 minute or so drive I try to make sure it's good before I head that way.

I have only fished Buckeye a handful of times and always out of Fairfield beach area.  Even with "good" ice I have been told that the north shore can be sketchy FWIW.  I've caught good gills, crappie, and saugeye usually near primetime early or late day.

Good luck and be safe!

It's kind of interesting actually.  It used to be that ice fishing was much more of a community sport, whereas soft water fishing is much different which sharing spots and info.  Some people have just ruined it though and its unfortunate.  If you get out and can share some general info to help others out such as body of water, depth, and method then that's great.  You don't have to share your honey hole with anyone.

Even with the beginning of this site things have changed and it surely changed over on OGF with all of the stalkers and people who don't contribute.  When this site started up I used to get together with a lot of guys regularly.  With the birth of 2 kids in the past 3 1/2 yrs I haven't been as active here or on the ice so that has changed some.  I attempted to get together with someone I fished with quite a bit in the past on the ice (and is a prominent member here and moderator) and last year I was asked if that person to guide me.  I was blown away to say the least.

Anyhow, I just needed to vent a little.  Looking forward to getting out on the ice soon!

It's all just starting but if you want early ice info look back to the past years.  Just my opinion.

Good luck and stay safe!

Nice perch!
I used to catch some huge perch at Bressler, Metzger, and Ferguson on soft craws in the late spring/early summer.

Dang buddy, you've been into some nice ones.  We need to get out sometime soon if this rain didn't mess up the ice too bad.

Hey guys,

Been a long time really... I just now was thinking about getting on the ice.  I've been in deer kill mode for the last few months, still no deer but I have a few weeks left.  I'm thinking about trying to get over to Indian this weekend if anyone wants to meet up or join me.  Shoot me a PM or call me.  614-623-8355

I'm gonna head out tomorrow evening most likely.  Hoping to fish Galena but my backup will be the docks.

That thing is HUGE.  Congrats on the catch!

I'm actually VERY shocked the state record isn't bigger than 15 inches though.  I guarantee there are bigger in Erie.

Is anyone still fishing Galena or did you venture out on the ice at all from the docks?
