General Discussion / Ice thickness app
« on: December 29, 2016, 10:53:03 AM »
Hey guys go check out the "ice report" app from your app store. Looks to be a quick and simple way to post safe ice. Be careful. It does use your gps location so dont stand directly on your honey hole when making a report  ;D

Shanty Help / Got Lucky Today
« on: October 14, 2016, 06:49:06 PM »
One of my stops on my route today was the Cabela's in Centerville. My job "forces" me to walk through their bargain cave to get to my equipment. Of course I keep an eye out for any must haves. Well I just happened to see a small black and white picture of a 2 man flip shanty, pinned to a cork board.

When i asked the lady about it. She told me it was a floor demo, and was priced accordingly. I assumed it was either junk or hardly marked down. I was pleasantly surprised. Turned out to be a Frabill 2110 Aegis. It seemed to be good condition and mostly there (minus the black strip that holds the cloth to the tub). The best part is, they marked it down from $400 to $200! To me that constituted as a "must have".

So now I won't be able to sleep for the next few nights. I'll be lying there imagining how I want to trick it out. After seeing Downthehole's mods, I'm thinking about using HDPE. So long as the weight is = or < 3/8'' plywood. Well either way, it's safe to say the wait for safe ice just got a little longer.

Hey guys, I wanted to introduce myself. My names Mike Im 26 and been fishing all my life. Normally I spend my winter months fly fishing for browns on the Mad river but this year ive decided to fish the hardwater. Ill be fishing with a friend, Jarod (who im sure will register soon and introduce himself). Im from kettering and plan to fish Indian, Kiser, and Cj Brown mostly. I look forward to meeting some of you guys on the ice asap! Ive just purchased 4 fenwick ice rods, 4 ice reels (okuma, frabill, pflugers), a 7" lazer auger, and a wide assortment of tackle. And before the season starts ill be picking up a flasher. I wanted to thank eveyone on here (and OGF) for the great information that has ignited a new passion, and for the info that im sure to pick up in the future. Heres to a new season!  ;D
