Title: Galion, 1/1/14
Post by: CFosterI on March 02, 2014, 05:38:18 PM
I fished a private quarry outside of Galion with 3 friends yesterday. 8" of ice about 2 foot visibity. 2nd time on this body of water this year. We kept 65 fish. mixed bag of gills 7-9" crappie 9-12" bass 11-12" and 1 channel cat about 5 lbs. Maybe another 30 smalls. Rapala minnows and raps, doll flies, pin mins tipped with wax worms. Had fun but the last time we were there we caught the same mixed bag but kept over 150 fish. How long will it be till we can ice fish in March again? I wasn't sure I was going to get to see the catfish. 4lb test and it took at least 4 good runs stripping line. Thinking about targeting catfish next time. Shrimp? liver? My walleye rigs? I don't eat them but boy was it fun! Hope you all got out yesterday. Let me know.

I love catfishing, but I haven't tried it through the ice.  In the summer my  favorite bait is chicken liver.  I've tried many other things like shrimp, nightcrawler, stink baits, etc, but I've always had the most success with liver.
