Sean Carlin and Andy Lightfoot of Cleveland, Ohio, credited hard work and pre-fishing for their success in winning the 2013 Michigan Ice Open on Upper Hamlin Lake Saturday.
They beat a team of two brothers from Brooklyn, Michigan, — Isaac and Zach Bivens who said the stars aligned for them Saturday.
A Ravenna team of Bryan Buist and Josh Driesenga got the trophy for the biggest crappie — 1 pound, 2 ounce fish.
Ben Spiegel of Adrian caught the biggest bluegill of the day, a 9-ounce fish that also won him a trophy.
Fifty two-person teams took part.
Fishing was mostly split between the "crappie area" near the Upper Lake's narrows and the bluegill area between Wilson Hill Park and Victory Park.
The top two teams had a strong finish in the bluegill area.
