mon., tues., & wed. temps look good for dayton area but thurs. & fri. highs aren't too good. if a good base of ice starts it should still make ice underneath. hopefully whatever melts refreezes & stays clear ice. hopefully by the middle of next week safe ice will be on the shallow ponds & lakes.

Me too.  Forecast is worse for you guys down south.  For NE Ohio our highs are only in the mid-upper 30's and cloudy, dropping to the 20's at night.  That won't hurt the base we get Mon,Tues, and Wed.

that wind needs to lay-down to get ice to start forming.

That's true.  Supposed to be windy thru Monday night.  That won't help ice form, even with a low of 15, it'll really screw things up! >:(

As much as I want to get out I dont think its going to happen yet. We are just getting a glimpse at what the weather should be. Its going to get cold for a few days and warm up for at least another week. I hope im wrong but I think we are looking at the 3rd week in Jan.

g, you're dreaming big time aren't you? ;D I hope it gets cold and stays cold so we can get out. Hopefully some of the smaller ponds will set up! We can only hope!! I keep checking the 10 day and hope to see them change it to colder, rather than warmer!! Hang in there everybody, our day will come!!
By the way, here's the latest 10 day for down here:http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/Englewood+OH+45322 (SUX)

I have a pond that's already skimmed over.  Going to ice fish on Wed if it kills me!!  Literally!!  I have to get out.  Going sitr crazy.  That pond used to be great for big gills.  Haven't fished it in 2 years, so I hope it's not all dead, because the water is down due to muskrats.  Now the pond went from 8-10 feet to 4-6 feet.  Even if I go in, it'll only be to the waist, gone thru in that pond before, I just stay away from the deep hole.

Be safe. Even if you go through you could possibly lose all you your gear. I said the same thing as you 10 years ago and ended up loosing everything I had. Its not worth the risk. Im going West Branch to fish the docks for walleye and panfish this week. Same reward without the risk.

Good point.  I found an old hand auger in the basement, and I'll drill with that.  My sled's staying on shore, so are my electronics.  I'll be fishing with my old schooley rod with an old fashioned spring bobber.  I know the pond and don't need anything hi-tech, just need to scratch the itch.  I won't lose anything if I go thru, just suffer some embarrassment!  I can park right beside the water, 5 seconds from ice to truck if I get wet.  The pond's on a family member's property, so if my auger goes in I can get it out with my big magnet after I dry off.  Just happy I found the hand auger so now I won't have any problems at Mogadore, I thought I gave it away. ???
