Make sure you are using a spud when walking around on those spring fed lakes and ponds and any other lake as well. You can be on 8 inchs of good ice and hit a spot where the spring is and go thru if it didnt freeze well. Those springs can be dangerous.

Always carry a few extra plastic shopping bags in the sled. The paper shopping bags dont work as well as the plastic ones lol ;D

There use to be eyes in wingfoot. They quit stocking it at least 20 years ago if I remember correctly. I lost a monster fish at the hole 2 years ago that I do believe was an eye but could have been a catfish. I have heard rumors that a few guys caught a couple but they were not credible reports. Walleye need moving water like a river to spawn and wingfoot lacks that feature. I think that it is possible that there is a few remaining in the lake but if there is it is very few. The reports of wingfoot eyes that I heard were of fish around 18 -24 inch. If there were eyes in there they would be really old and I would have to guess they would be around 28 to 30+ inch fish. That is one of my main reasons that I am getting a camera. I want to look at entire bottom of that lake so I can see whats around. Hopefully I will find that giant school of jumbo perch too.  ;D

I haven't been on Nimi ice since 2011. I want to fish the campground for redears so bad. Even if it locks up good I wonder how the fishing will be. 2nd ice always seems worse then 1st ice. We are going for 3rd ice now. lol. I have never fished 3rd ice so hopefully it will be better then 2nd ice and not worse

I have noticed that it seems every year there is a shad kill by the boathouse every year. Normally I dont notice it until later in the spring. I wonder whats up with that.

Hopefully we wont get any more rain before it cools down. Then we need to pray for no snow once it starts to freeze.

May have to continue with the alum tourneys to have some fun on the weekends with this horrible weather.

I have to agree on icing a nimi walleye. Never pulled one thru a hole there but have always tried and wanted to. Its been on my ice fishing bucket list for a long time. I got my 17 1/2 inch crappie at the Old State Park a few years ago. I have accepted the fact that I will most likely never get a bigger crappie and I screwed up by eating it instead of hanging it on the wall. If I ever get close again its going straight to taxidermy. I really want a 30 inch eye for the wall. Thats #1 on the list.

I really praying that Wingfoot will be fishable for the Harvest for Hunger Charity ice fishing event on saturday but its not looking good. Remember that the event is being held ice or no ice so I hope to see everyone out there

Ive been out twice this season. 1 time for first ice and once for second ice. Im not sure if I have ever fished 3rd ice before. We are all used to getting on ice and getting a thaw then refreeze for the rest of the season but this is all new for me. Ive always found that 2nd ice isnt as good as 1st ice. Im really curious of how 3rd ice will be. If this pattern stays the same we may end up having to fish 3rd, 4th or even 5th ice. lol. I dont care what ice it is just as long as its there. Im really tired of Mother Nature playing games with my heart.

I hope they got off safely as well. There are a lot of people out there that dont realize just how fast ice can deteriorate in this kind of weather. I went out on Nimi 5-6 years ago in the morning on 8 inchs of ice. It was about 4 clear and 4 white. I fished all day in my t shirt because the weather was so nice and then barely get off the ice at the end of the day. At the end of the day the ice went for 8 inches to  4-6 inches of white crappy soft slushy ice and the edges had all thawed out. It had thawed almost 10 ft out from the shore. Luckily the water was shallow and only just above my knees and I had to wade the last 10 ft. to shore. Needless to say that was the last day for me that season. The warm rain that we are getting now will decay the ice really fast. I just hope that it gets real cold real fast so we can fish the Harvest for Hunger Charity event on saturday at The Foot.
