General Discussion / Jammin Jigs
« on: January 03, 2014, 10:22:35 PM »
I picked up some jamming jigs today. Wow the paint job on these are gorgeous!!! Not sure, I might have to rubber coat the hemos. I used one a few times last year and it caught fish. Hopefully I will be able to put them to the test this year.

Generally after a 10 day forcast the weather people (accuweather included) uses the average temperatures for those days as their forcast.
I would not get to worried about the extended forcast yet. they can barely get a 5 day forcast correct.
Dick Goddard has predicted this January to be one of the coldest on record.

General Discussion / COLDEST DAY OF 2014
« on: January 02, 2014, 11:28:32 AM »
Well Tuesday 1/7 is supposed to be brutaly cold and windy.
High temp of -2 and 20 mph winds.  :o
I have a large project at work starting on 1/8, so I have decided to take the 7th off and go fish.
Please, tell me that I wont be the only one out fishing on Tuesday.

I have the jiggin elbow real bad and have an increasing urge to scratch it.

Im gonna press my luck this saturday and atleast try to get on the ice.

Have you been by wellington latley? Wondering how it was freezing.
Spencer hasn't gained much in the last few days. Not consistent either.
Some places 1" - 3".
Not sure it will be ready this weekend.  Depends on the snow.

Spencer lake / 12/31/13 Ice Report
« on: December 31, 2013, 12:09:59 PM »
I went and checked Spencer around 11am to see how the lakes were setting up.
I checked the west ends of the north and south lakes.
North lake at the boat ramp was 2". I didn't go more than a few feet from the ramp. I really didn't feel like getting wet.  The ramp on the north end is situated in a protected cove.
The south lake looked a little different. the edges seemed to take most of the damage from the last warm up we had. The edges of the south lake were only about 1" thick. I grabbed the 8' 1x10 out of my truck. About 8' out the ice was at 2" hard and clear.
Both sides have snow sitting on them. Not sure if that snow with the pending snow we have coming in over the next day or so will help or hurt us. It will either weigh the ice down push water up and refreeze. or worst case insulate the the ice and make it hard to grow.
I won't check again until Saturday as that is the earliest I would see it being ready.
Another update to follow on Saturday.
Everyone be safe and have a Wonderful New year.

Joewall. let me know when you want to hit Spencer or Wellington. I live in Grafton so I fish both of them often. If it is sunny or making ice (singing) your best bet is Spencer. the fish at wellington are easily spooked and hold tight to the bottom. the best fishing in Spencer is on the south lake. Let me know when your headed that way I have a couple good spots out there. I took  a few hundred eaters out of there last year even with a short season.

General Discussion / Re: SUFFIX 832 ICE BRAID
« on: December 24, 2013, 11:18:31 AM »
Thanks for all the feedback guys. Sounds like I might need to try it for panfish too.
I've been using the orange micro ice for awhile. I have no complaints other than when pan fishing if I do hook into a larger toothy fish it rends to cut. I think I will try the 832 in 2 lb for panfish and 6 lb for walleye etc... thanks again guys and Merry Christmas

General Discussion / Re: It's a Glass half full thing.....

I tend to prefer my glass half full of water and the other half full of Jack Daniels  ;D
We should get some safe ice by the week of the 6th.
