Product and Tackle Reviews / Rod Cases
« on: December 09, 2021, 06:28:42 PM »
I'm consider buy a new ice rod case and I want to hear thoughts and opinions on cases you currently use. I use an Eagle Claw hard case, but I want a case that has a should strap for easy carrying on and off the ice.  Any advice would be great. Thanks and good fish'n!

General Discussion / Getting ready for the ice fishing season
« on: September 24, 2017, 03:51:00 PM »
Yesterday I put new blades on the Lazer. I made sure they were made in sweden and not China. Also a useful hint for auger blades is to grease the bolts before assembling them to the auger. This keeps the bolts from rusting and potentiality snapping out on the ice. Anyone else getting ready for the season? If so, what have you been doing to prep for the season?

General Discussion / Pro-view Ice ducer questions
« on: September 17, 2017, 01:55:41 PM »
I just recently purchased a pro-view ice transducer for my Vex Fl-18 model and i'm starting to get second thoughts on it. Does anyone use a Pro-view in shallow water (10ft or less) and how good of a job does it do marking fish? From everything I've been reading it just sounds like a glorified 9 degree transducer. That kind of concerns me considering most of the fishing I do around central Ohio is shallow lakes and ponds. Anyways, I know there's a few guys on here that have the FLX 28 that comes with the Pro-view standard and I'm just wondering what has been your experience with it thus far?
Thanks, John

C.J. Brown / Marina docks
« on: December 04, 2016, 08:59:01 PM »
Found some keeper  crappie and some very nice gills fishing the docks today. All the crappie were caught 6' off the bottom and the gills were caught 2' off the bottom. All the gills were caught using a vmc tungsten tubby jig tipped with a wax worm. The crappie were caught with northland rattle spoons tipped with a wax worm and Vmc tubby with glow mustache worm.

Alum Creek Dock Tournaments / Delaware/Alum docks
« on: November 06, 2016, 02:40:12 PM »
I went to both Delaware and Alum creek docks today and it was a complete waste of gas. The docks at Delaware had the ramps removed so I couldn't access the docks without jumping from the concrete wall over a 5ft gap to reach the docks. Trust me I considered doing it, but I wouldn't had a way back up and would of been stuck. So I decided to drive over to Alum to see if there was a slim chance of fishing the gas pump. No such luck because the marina docks are gated off with construction vehicles all over the place. Hopefully I saved some of you a headache and some gas. Ice season can't come soon enough!

Indian Lake / Ice conditions 1-8-15
« on: January 08, 2015, 02:20:28 PM »
I went around the lake today and didn't really find any safe fishable ice. The first pull off @ long island had 3' of milky ice. The 2nd pull off looked too dangerous to even attempt walking out onto it. The game reserve and blackhawk has a lot of snow build up and was only a 1 1/2 thick! The ice started cracking really bad 4ft off the bank! In my opinion it's about a week away before it has safe to fish. For me I'll be sticking to the docks @ CJ Brown or Alum Creek.

General Discussion / This weekend

Where's everyone going this weekend if we have safe ice? Once again I'll be scouting out Indian Lake later in the week and will feed back the information. Hope to see you all on the ice very soon!

Indian Lake / Great day on the ice!!!!!!
« on: January 02, 2015, 08:35:53 PM »
The first pull off @ Long Island has 3 1/2 inches of clear ice. There was about 8 other guys there catching bluegill, crappie, and a few perch. I ended up catching around 20-30 gills with 6 gills between 9 - 9 1/2 inches (threw them all back). The perch I saw caught were pretty good ones too. With this warm up we're going to get tomorrow the ice probably won't last, but should be back by the weekend (Jan 10th). It was GREAT  to finally be on some fishable ice and even better to have a pretty good day of fishing.

Indian Lake / Heading to the lake tomorrow
« on: January 01, 2015, 11:49:20 AM »
I'm going to scout out Indian Lake tomorrow and find out if we have any safe ice out there. Probably start at long island and work my way around. If we don't have any safe ice, I plan on fishing the docks at mound wood. If anyone is interested on meeting up just let me know. Probably be at the lake around 7:00am.

Fished the docks from 2:00p-5:00p with some success. Caught a lot of short gills and crappies. Had one keeper crappie that I threw back and a huge one that came off. The key today was down sizing. I started out using 5mm jigs and spoons and found out they were keying in on smaller profile baits. My go-to baits ended up being a 3mm horizontal jig with meat and a vertical jig w/plastic and no meat.

Alum Creek / Dead at the docks
« on: December 15, 2014, 05:02:34 PM »
Fished today with my buddy Aaron from 11:00am- 3:00pm and we had no success at all. All we marked on the Vexilar was a few schools of shad going through and that was it. We fished every dock from top to bottom, trying every lure imaginable, but still nothing. The water was crystal clear and I don't know if that had something to do with it or not? Probably the time of day didn't help too.

Alum Creek / Slow fishing 2/23/14
« on: February 24, 2014, 09:20:01 AM »
I fished the docks from 3:30-6:30pm and only managed one rock bass. I had a saugeye on, but it got off. I went up and down the far east and far west docks and only marked fish near the christmas trees. The night wasn't a total loss though because I got to hear two barred owl do there prototypical "who cooks for you…who cooks for you all…" call for about an hour. Then when I was pulling out of my parking spot a great horned owl flew over my car and landed on a light post right beside me. I end up getting a picture of him with my phone. All in all pretty good night enjoying our natural resources.

Indian Lake / Indian Lake GRASS PICKEREL haha
« on: January 27, 2014, 10:21:54 AM »
My neighbor and I went fishing yesterday around 11:30am. We started @ Dunn's Pond and found out that was a dead hole. So we packed up and head to the Nature Preserve around 1:30. We had pretty good success there catching Bluegills, Pumpkinseeds, and my neighbor caught a baby muskie. I couldn't believe it! I never heard of anyone catching a muskie out of Indian Lake before. Ice conditions were great. Dunn's pond had around 5-6 inches and the Nature Preserve had 8-9 inches.

Alum Creek / Alum Creek ice report 12/28/12
« on: December 30, 2012, 03:52:03 PM »
Fished the marina docks around 4:00pm - 8:00pm and caught one keeper crappie. There's nothing but open water on the main lake and skim ice in some of the back channels. Probably going to be another week or two(weather permitting) before we can walk out on any sort of safe ice there.
