Never have caught a fish in Ohio through the ice that wouln't come through a 6" hole.

I thought the same thing until I hooked a 10lb channel cat at a farm pond.  Had to drill another hole next to it and bust out the middle to get him out.  Fun times.

I know the best way to catch muskies at Alum is just bass fish.  This works extremely well in the early spring when water temps are 42-50.  Just throw a bass sized spinnerbait or rattle trap in shallow water and concetrate on any wood in the water.  Most bass fishermen average 3 muskies a trip during this period of the year doing this.

I caught this 'eye out of a quarry.  There were less than 30 put in a few years ago and it is a 28 acre quarry.  I was quite surprised to catch one.  This was the fattest eye i've ever seen, not real long but super thick even all the way to the tail was fat!  Never did measure or weigh it, but guessing 2 1/2-3 lbs.

I just used the pulloffs.  They weren't too bad, but did have snow plowed snow there as well that I had to run over.  4 wheel is a must.

SLOW day/night.  Ended up with one dink gill, 3 dink crappies, and a small bass.  The vex was lit up and they weren't biting so I put on a vibe and snagged one of the fish, it was a 4" shad.  Too many shad to use the vex and nothing was in there eating them.  Ice was 5" clear plus 2" of crap ice.

I got out on my quarry today in Columbus.  Fishing was slow with only 10 or so bluegills caught and 2 small LM.   One Bluegill was pushing 9" though.  I was 5". 3" of clear ice, 2" of frozen white snow ice.  Ice around the edges was iffy.

Alum Creek / Ice conditions?

Whenever somebody gets out can you let me know if the snow is on the ice or if it liquefied?  The ice on my quarry liquefied and should be a good 8 inches of good hard white ice by tomorrow morning!  I'm pumped that the snow did that.

Here is a nice cat I caught from a farm pond earlier this year.  It hit a jig and waxworm on an ultra light ice rod with 4 lb test.  It was an adventure that required us to drill another 6" hole since he wasn't getting through the one.  Estimated at around 30" and 9-10lbs

It was certainly much slower this morning.  I caught a handful, but there were only 4 fish on the ice among 6 people there.  The fish were in there thick still, they just wouldn't bite anything.  The ones that did bite were super light and most of the bites were missed.  Hopefully this snow doesn't hurt the ice too much.

My old boss used gto work in the office at runaway. I was asking her about the quarries a couple of years back and she said a lot of people fished them. How deep are they?

Runaway Bay's quarry is about 28 feet at its deepest point. Lots of bass and bluegills, some smallmouth and not much other than that.
