I have had one of the worst ice seasons ever on Mosquito.

I'm hoping to get another weekend in, looks pretty good weather wise. I might do Crane again. I would never have thought I would be ice fishing the big pond towards the middle of March. 2 years ago I trolled for eyes out of Catawba March 9th on the boat. It may be til April before the boats can even think about going out this year . Its much more fun pulling them big slobs out of an 8" hole anyhow.

Agree with all of that, especially last sentence!

Congrats against on that fish. You are having one hell of a season!

Have to say I'm a little jealous. Really want to break that 12 lb mark. Hope my brother doesn't want to leave early again this Saturday.

Fished Ladue Sat and Skeeter Sunday. Caught lots of small crappie, perch, and white perch before 11 am Sat, then they shut off. Only one fish on Sunday. Lots of lookers all day. I have had some banner trips in snowstorms before. Not this time :'(

That works great. I got tired of changing my boots to go into tackle shops. Went back to the Frabill rubber cleats.

Fished south of west causeway in 10 fow Sat/Sunday. Same as our other trips. A few throwback walleyes,  a few big crappies and big perch. Very slow. #3&4 blue or green pimples, 1/8 blue buckshot, #3 orange & #5 clown jigging raps all w/ minnow heads and 1/8 clown vibee all pulled fish. Ice was 6.5". I searched all over shallower and deeper for a better bite Sat. My buddies out fished me sitting and picking, which is what I did today.

Hit Ladue from 2:30-5:30pm. 6" of ice where I fished in 23fow. Spuded my way out. No thin spots. Very little water right at shore. Long step got me on good ice. Non stop the whole time with small perch, crappie, and a few white bass. No keepers. #3 blue silver jig rap and #2 ice blue Swedish pimple w/ minnow head.

Shanty Help / shanty ancor
« on: January 13, 2014, 04:19:29 AM »
Use a shanty ancor when there is even a remote possibility of high wind. You will be trapped in your shanty once it gets windy. We had major problems this past Saturday afternoon at the buoy line on Mosquito. Two of my buds got blown right out of their one mans. One got dragged about 50' with gear all over. The other ended up with his leg in a hole and shanty in the trees on the eastern shoreline.

Sorry for your and his families loss.

I'm going to try further north Sat if it's not too sloppy.
