General Discussion / Re: New Honda powered StrikeMaster
« on: March 06, 2014, 08:08:30 AM »
I contacted the factory. I dont know of any other websites with this issue listed. I dont to much on the web. They asked for a s/n# and mailed them out. Im sure i jumped the gun selling it.
Not knocking your choice to sell it. I just wanted to know what to look forward to with my investment. I've had 2 strikemasters before. An electra 2000 and a gas model. The electra didn't give me enough holes and i live in an apartment building so i had no where to keep the gas model. This ion serves me very well. Enjoy your strikemaster. It's a very good auger.

Fished 2 more days since last post and still no problem with the blades. 3 of us the first day cut around 25 to 30 holes trying to find the fish and 2 of us, at a diffrent lake, cut 15. So thats another 40 to 45 holes. If there's a blade issue, i'm glad it was just an isolated issue as i've been checking all the ice sites and cant find another report about the blades. Would you direct me to the site with all the blade issue threads? I invested a lot of money in my Ion and i'd really like to know as much as i can about it.

There are issues with the blades, they didnt stay sharp. Its a common problem and the factory is replacing the blades with new ones. but they arnt any better. the unit is heavy with the the battery on it. it does hold a good charge, it will outlast the blades. I had a 1980's jiffy that was to heavy for my advanced age and went that route and it didnt work out.  the season is just to short to mess around.
I'm on my second year with my ION and cant agree with you about the blade problem. I've got to be close to 450 holes with mine by now and never had a problem with the blades. I forgot to bring the battery in the house one time in the early season sub-zero temps and only got around 25 holes the next morning before the battery bogged down on me but it wasn't the blades. Thanks for the heads up info tho. I'll post when i have to replace the blades. By the way, roughly how many holes before your blades were shot?

Inventions / Re: Shanty & sled towing made easier

Just had a smitty sled made for me last week. I have an older model trap pro that pulled like a tank with just a little snow on the ice. This sled has made a huge diffrence for me. Glad i had it made. I tried to get a guy on this site to make me one months ago but he never got back to me.

From all the reports on the PA board of iceshanty, Tuttle is the place to be for big perch, eyes, and crappies.

If i feel like eating bass i'll keep them. If not i'll throw em back. Rather eat smallmouth than largemouth tho. Sorta like perch over walleye.

General Discussion / Re: Marcum LX7 or Ion Lith Auger
« on: January 11, 2014, 11:40:18 AM »
If the flasher works for you but the drilling is a problem, get what you need most, not what you want. I bought an Ion last season because my shoulders wont let me drill a lot of holes with the hand auger. It fits my need perfectly. For me, it's always needs before wants. Good luck on your choice.

Thank you for the help and believe me If the ice is not ready, either am I.

I was just outside with the snow blower and it is brutal out there. May be a little too brutal.
Brutal is the right word for it. Was going to Mosquito in the morning but i think i'll wait til wednesday.

« on: December 20, 2013, 01:42:01 PM »
That's pretty good. I also made one from a 5 gallon bucket lid and a stopper / clothes pin. I drilled a hole in the center of the lid and then cut a slot to it. The lid is flexible so it'll let you run the cord to the hole. Lower the camera to the desired depth and clip the pin on. The pin will hold it at that depth and you can turn the lid to find your bait. Easy to make and very effective to use.

Loosen the bolts you tightened and see if that helps.

General Discussion / Re: Getting my new toy today Marcum vs380
« on: December 17, 2013, 02:30:22 PM »
I have one. Not impressed with it. It's heavy, cumbersome, and doesn't show very much in murky water. I don't bother taking it out with me anymore. Bought a micro vue. Better picture and fits in the palm of your hand. But hope you enjoy your 380.
