Alum Creek Dock Tournaments / Re: 11/14
« on: November 12, 2015, 12:38:01 PM »
Sorry I haven't been able to make a tournament yet, and will miss the next 3. Wife made plans to watch OSU game at a friend's this week, next week going to Cincy to see daughter, and not missing Michigan game (should change that tourney to Sunday).
Miss seeing all the guys, and the camaraderie.

Look at the Vexilars and Marcums. These are the most widely used. Ask people that are using them to show the functions of the unit that they are using. Most people are happy to help. The flasher provides a visual dimension to fishing that you don't experience out of the boat.

Yep, nothing like a little competitive dock fishing. Great bunch of guys.

I think the first tournament is the first weekend of November. If they are Sunday, it would be on the 1st. Dave mentioned that he plans on putting them on again this year.

Nice slab Ty. If fishing is slow. Best to get the biggest. Congrats.

Well guys, I've heard quite a bit about planking, and I love ice fishing. My thoughts are, if I need a plank to get out on the ice, then the ice is melting. My plank might not be long enough by the time I'm ready to get off the ice. For me, it can wait until next year.

I have a vex and a Marcum. Don't have that problem with the Marcum.

The best fishermen I know have bad days. Don't feel bad. None of us are earning a paycheck. I love catching fish, but I also like being out with friends, enjoying the company, and the solitude of being out on the ice.

Great job Bobby. Nothing like Erie eyes. A true adrenaline rush seeing that big head coming up through that hole (we're still in the ice fishing forum, sickos). Yeah g, there is something magical to the entire experience.

I have the vex 28 and agree with all that has been said. However, if the budget is an issue, the fl18 is a great unit. Reed's will run some pretty good sales, and cabellas often has $50 coupons for purchases over $500.

Check out Reed's. They'll run some good sales on new stuff.

Got to know Tom this year at the dock tourneys. Always passionate about the ice fishing. Will miss his company at the docks. Prayers to family and friends.

I have 2 flashers. Started out with the Marcum VX1 and upgraded to a Vexilar FL28. Vx1 was a good unit and I did well with it. My only criticism is that the wiring is put together like a 5th grade science project. I don't use the Marcum much any more since I got the Vex. I like the zoom feature on the vex. I also like the color options and the number of interference settings. I bought it used less than a year for a good price. If I was to buy one new, I would probably purchase the FL18. I've looked at a few of them, and they're a quality unit.

Great to hear that you got out Chris. I was out on Saturday and picked up about 35 eyes. All dinks, 10-12 inches. Lost one decent one. Nice to see the bright outlook for the future but disappointed that none were bigger. Did you guys run into a lot of smaller eyes. The guys around us were catching the same in about 11 feet.
