BERLIN WALLEYE TOURNAMENT
Here's the official information for the Berlin Lake ice walleye tournament:
EVENT INFORMATION:
DATE: Sunday January 26, 2014
LOCATION: A&C Fish and Game will host both check-in and weigh-in. They're located at:
17487 West Akron Canfield Road (St. Rt. 224) Berlin Center, Ohio 44401
TIME: Check-in 6:30 A.M. and weigh-in will be 2:00 P.M.
Entry fees will be $20.00/per team. Option to fish alone is acceptable. There will be an optional $5 big walleye pot and an additional optional $5 biggest non-walleye pot. Cash at ramp preferred. 100% payback!!
There will be coffee and hot dogs at the tournament, so please post in this thread if you're coming, that way Chuck and I know how many to plan for. Thanks in advance!
We will be "launching" near the old road bed across the street form A&C. There will be plenty of parking available around this area. It will be a walking event from this launch for safety reasons. YOU MUST WEIGH IN EVEN IF YOU GET SKUNKED, THAT WAY ALL CAN BE ACCOUNTED FOR!
We're hoping to have some prizes to give away as well. IFO will give a Jason Mtichell rod/reel combo away too.
All length limits for Berlin will be observed when weighing-in fish. Live bait is welcome. All anglers must have proper ice safety equipment with them and in good working order.
All Berlin's waters are open to fishing. NO FROZEN FISH CAN BE WEIGHED IN!!
The official entry form is attached below. Hope to see everyone there.
-
I can not wait!
-
Tip-ups for now will be 6 per team. But we'll play that by ear. If the ice is crowded and we have a large turnout, we may do rod and reels only. Then it would be 2 rods per person, one deadstick and one held in your hand. Or both could be deadsticks, they'd just have to be within 10 feet of your shanty.
-
Sounds good im in
-
I want to go , its an easy drive from home and I know the lake
-
I will have a 2 man team.
-
i'll plan on being there
-
i'm in - not sure where old road bed is- is that old 224?
-
We'll meet at a&c and the old road bed is right across the street.
-
I Plan to be there.
Hope we have safe ice!!
-
I will have a 2 man team plus another single.
Do you think the ice will form?
All the reports I read mentioned the lake still wide open on 12/14?
Most lakes I saw were all ready locked up with 2" clear ice.
Hoping for a deep freeze after this thaw.
-
If it's open we'll set an alternate date. Maybe sometime early February. I'll get with Chuck and find out what works if we can't do it in January.
-

DATE CHANGE
TOURNAMENT WILL BE MOVED TO SUNDAY JANUARY 26, as an unexpected scheduling conflict just arose today for the 12th. Sorry for any confusion or problems this may cause.
-
Buddacheifer and futurestrader are in for the 26th

QUESTIONS: Are you aloud to have a pre set up shanty on your spot? and for Largest Non-Walleye, is that ANY species?? Never fished a Tourney, Berlin is close by. Gonna do some scouting. Also, proper safety equipment? I bring a rope and spud bar, what is the official standard? Got a partner! CHOMP! Thanks!
-
No preset shanty, any fish counts for other species, and your safety equipment is ok! See you there ;D!! ;D
-
How many teams are we talking (ballpark?) I'm def interested. ;)
-
Looks like maybe 15-20 so far. Hope more. Going to try to get it on the radio Monday morning.
-
I wouldn't pre set a shanty simply because it wont be there the next day unfortunately.
-
Ok another question !!!!!! No frozen fish at weight in ??? Do u guys put them on a stringer ? Of u catch them and put them on the ice they will freeze , am I right
-
Just put them in a bucket and keep them off the ice. Your fishing a tournament anyhow so wouldent be laying my fish out there for all to see.
-
The bucket statement is correct. A little stiff is fine, but you can tell if a fish has been the freezer overnight! ;D We just don't want that. :o
-
How many fish can a 2 person team weigh in? Is it 15 inches out there? Haven't been out there in a few years.
-
There is a 15" minimum and a 6 fish limit.
-
Is this tourn open to the general public or just IFO members? Thx. ;)
-
Open to anyone who wants to come!!
-
There is a 15" minimum and a 6 fish limit.
Per team or person to weigh in.
-
Per team. Since some are fishing alone, we're going to do a 6 fish per team weigh in. If you're fishing as a pair, the legal limit is 12, so legally you can take 12 home to eat, but can only weigh in 6, so it's fair to the guys fishing alone.
-
Got it thanks
-
Please note that the rules are amended and there are no tipups now for fear of over congestion on the ice.
-
Great no tip ups 7degrees and windy, what next slab catfish dont count aarrgghh! :-\
-
No, they still count!! ;)
-
Well in that case my team is a go for sunday, may the best cat win!

-
Couple more questions. Check in starts or ends at 0630? When can we start fishing? Thx. ;)
-
First light, 7-7:30. Don't want to miss dawn bite.
-
Hate to fish this alone anyone wanna team up with a first timer? I have all gear required except for safety gear but will get some of that before hand.
Would a wearing a life jacket do for safety and a rope?
-
Count me in.
I see parking as an issue. Could we drop off our stuff and park at Chuck's?

Yes, maybe teams can drive together!
-
Keepinitreel and myself are partners.
-
Is this for walleye only?
I have never fished an ice tournement, all fish must be alive to weigh?
Best way to keep alive?
Thanks,
Brandon ???
-
gonna be a COLD one for sure--- nothing like a warm ass and flask to get ya through the day!!! is anyone else as excited as i am--- 2 days and a wake-up
-
Mainly for walleye, but there's a biggest non walleye pot too. The fish don't have to be alive. Just not frozen solid from the night before! ;D
-
Hey slab , check I. Starts at 6:30 what time is the launch ? I might fish it solo
-
Launch at dawn, 7-7:30. Don't want to miss the early morning bite! ;D
-
Tough pulling with the snow drifts. My cleats were worthless. Can you fish anyplace and launch anyplace? Or does everyone have to leave from the roadbed?
-
Thanks slab , think I might be there
-
I think that will be a game time decision by Ntoiceman36 and Chuck. They'll make the call tomorrow, I'm out of the tournament because of the flu. I was hoping to make it, but called it tonight because I still can't get off the couch. We're looking to do another event here in February.
Everyone have fun without me tomorrow! :'(
-
Me and bud wes will be there
