Saw that same post.
You should treat it like a regular jig tipping one end with a maggot, spike, mousie etc. too small of a hook to put a minnow on. soft plastics work well. the image you are trying to portray is a small fish trying to eat larvae so pounding the bottom, which is what minnows do, helps.

I fish it with waxies tipped on both ends just because that's how I roll. I don't like fishing a bare hook alrhough my Michigander friends fish beads all day long for perch and prove me wrong.

My all around jig is a chartruce mudbug,smalest size avaliable. great for perch and gills anywhere so far Ive experienced
When in doubt test it out.  No ice is safe ice. becareful out there.
