Any signs yet?
on:
January 29, 2017, 07:52:14 PM
So we are 4 days into the cooler weather, the 15 day shows about the same temps....highs in the 30s and lows in the 20s...Has anyone seen any signs of a freeze yet? Saw some skim ice on a local pond yesterday but that's about it.
I'm hoping this thread brings good news!

Same here. Ice on ponds, but didn't drive by any lakes today.

Grand Lake St Marys is still wide open but had some skim ice on some channels. Warm temps overnight did not build an ice. Most ponds I have seen are still open. Not looking good for a February outing.

I agree Aaron. The wind is really getting on my nerves. We would have some ice if the wind would go away. Still hopeful since we are not in Feb. yet. May have to take a long weekend and do a road trip somewhere.

It does. If we don't get ice cover (locked in, but not necessarily walkable) on the lakes by the weekend I'm doubtful of any good freeze. Maybe some bays, but we need to get at least a covering or the wind will kill us. The long term temps aren't looking good for a lot of ice production. But we'll see. I'm not giving up hope till march!

Ponds near us have skim ice on them. Some signs of ice on the edges of O'Shaughnessy reservoir but the rest is wide open.

I think we may be screwed guys. Cold next couple days then 50s and rain tue and wed. Then cold again but doesn't look to last. I don't see it happening. Sigh...

I hate to even think it but I have to agree with you. If we get on ice it will be in another state. I may just use ice rods on the boat.
