Lots of open water and rotten ice on grand lake st marys right now. It is not looking good for the 2nd season in a row. Forecast not looking promising either. Don't shoot the messenger! I apologize for the poor quality picture, not much light when i got home. Safety island in the background.

17 degrees on Christmas day and still no ice on the open part of grand lake . . Hopefully soon! I am not liking the high 40's and lows still above freezing in the forecast the next few days.

Thin, rotten ice was still covering Lima Lake yesterday. Planned on fishing from the dock, but it was roped off and needed repairs. Talked to one guy ice fishing off the boat ramp dock, no bites there either. 60 degrees is too warm for this time of year!

Both Ferguson & Metzger still had ice on 12-26-2019 but it was soft and rotten. Large spots of open water on both reservoirs. Both were pretty low too. 60 degrees is not going to build us any ice.

Both bresler & williams reservoirs were completely open yesterday. Neither looked like they had any ice yet. Two guys caught perch from the bank on the north point which was out of the water a few feet. Saw one guys launch a boat and headed towards the south shore. 60 degree day with a south wind does not make good ice! 😰

We have about 1/8 to 1/4" of skim ice over most of the lake. Waited for sun to cut through fog for picture. Can't wait until it gets 3-4".

Fished Earl's island area from daylight till noon on Saturday. I got a few small crappie and gills on pink/white and yellow/green tungsten jigs tipped with spikes. Some guys wee getting some keeper crappies but not many bigger gills. Ice was 6-7" thick with shoreline ice a little dicey due to the warm and rain Wednesday then the water level rising, then falling.

I just checked the ice on the open part of the lake and it is about 6" thick. Some spots near shore only took one good hit with the Spud to go through. The top 1.5" is pretty much frozen slush and not very strong. With a little luck, the warm and rain may help remedy that. I am hoping for some good, cold weather about mid-week.

Skim ice is nearly covering the lake, but snow is falling and is expected to put 3-5" on the ground today. Snow will keep things from thickening up and slush may be a problem.

From what I can see, all the ice on the open part of the lake is gone thanks to the warmer temps and yesterday's rain. I would guess there is still ice on channels but not nearly enough to fish. Wanting cold weather so round two can get underway!

Got out and did not get wet today, of course I did not catch fish either. Lots of marks and one bite. 2.5" nice clear ice in the channels I checked. Fished until about 11: 30. Nice to be out, I wish this ice would last. Use your spud bar if you go out today and stay off once it warms up.

The lake has about 1/8" of ice over most of what I can see. Too bad warm weather is in the forecast. I still have some work on the new Eskimo Evo 1T shanty for wiring lights, adding rod holders and mounting some storage boxes.

Got 5 keeper crappies 12-4-2018 while it was snowing and 32 degrees. Next time out I will hopefully be drilling holes to catch crappies.
