I was just curious as to what type of ice fishing line you use for panfish and why. Seems like the braided freezes up quicker when I have used it. Also has anyone tried those new flywheels?

Well we had 9 kids to take fishing yesterday with four fathers. I decided to try out Medina Lake and it was on!!! Surprised at the size of the bluegill we were pulling out so that will be on my list for sure for next ice season. I had some factory packaged dead minnows and threw those on some hooks with a bobber and bingo caught crappie right around 1pm in the afternoon. The crappie were not that large but the kids had a blast and it was fish on with each cast. With nine kids casting from shore it was amazing that one of them did not hook another one. Of course I spent most of the time fixing tangled lines, lost lures, etc. but it was a great day!

Here are the pictures of the new sled. Lumber cost was $8 and spent $8 in varnish and $5 on the pull rope. Summer project is to add foam seating and a backrest for the kids. I had to make this sled versatile so it could be pulled behind my ATV and very durable if going out on Erie or carrying fellow fisherman yet light enough to be able to go out on an inland lake by myself to pull by hand. All parts can be removed and the box to carry all the gear can be flipped over on the ice to double as a bench to fish off of. The found the skis on craigslist for free and it rides about six inches off of the ground in case there is snowpack. I just spray the bottom of the skis with silcone spray to glide them up.

On a side note this Saturday and Sunday you can fish in Michigan without buying a fishing license. It is one of their yearly events. Looking to head north we will be at Houghton Lake.

Just an FYI there was a large trout stocking at Wallace Lake in Berea a couple of days ago. Most use powerbait on hooks to get their catch but I like the powerbait on a small pimple or lightweight vertical spoon.

Ok lets try this again. I talked to Bob Lee at Houghton Lake and he is located on the south shore next to the bait shop. He said fishing is really picking up and they have 8-12" of ice. If we stay there he will give us all the GPS fish coordinates for the lake depending on what specises we are targeting. He has rooms available both the weekend of Feb 9th and Feb 16th. You can visit his website at www.the-leeresort.com. PM me if you are interested in going and what weekend works for you and once we get a head count we can book something and hit it. You can also call me at 440-223-5888. ATV's can be used on the lake and if you do not have a shanty you can rent those too but he said they are not in the real good fishing areas. I know I will be taking a loss on the transaction but it would be easier for me to haul with my son.
