My 1 acre pond was completely frozen over yesterday. Only 2 inches thick off the dock using spud bar. If I would have had 4 or 5 sheets of plywood laying around to use to spread out my weight........................... very tempting!   ;D    I'll just keep waiting, I guess.

General Discussion / Live nightcrawlers
« on: December 18, 2020, 02:59:37 PM »
Hello all. I started a worm farm in my insulated garage this past spring and my nightcrawlers are doing fine. I usually ice fish with waxies, but I want to try live night crawlers this year. IF we get good ice that is.  ::)  BTW, I fish my own pond for LM bass, yellow perch, and hybrid gills. Has anyone used live night crawlers? Do they live very long in the cold water? Thanks a bunch.

Beware: www. fish-United is a scam. Ordered a rod from them last year because of the great price. Did not receive anything. I see today that they still have a website up and running. How is that possible?

I'm still here. Been kayak fishing on my pond vertical jigging with one of my ice rods. Just like ice fishing, except much warmer! Gulp minnow with jig and worms from my ''worm farm'' that I keep in the garage. I will have live night crawlers to use this winter! IF we get good ice, that is.................. ;D

I guess that I was lucky to get out 3 days in December on my pond. I thought it was just the beginning of a great season! Maybe next year................

I am going to drill a test hole tomorrow in my pond. Let's hope for at least 3 inches. Gonna be real cold tonight. Might be the last chance for the season.

I checked my pond last week and it was about 2-2 1/2 inches. It seemed solid, but I need at the very least 3 inches. I always tie off to the dock with a safety line, but I wouldn't want to lose all of my gear! Maybe February will be cold. Sure glad that I was able to fish 3 days in December, 20, 21, and 22.

Lots of ideas on youtube for cheap homemade devices. One uses a mousetrap and one uses a small battery operated motor to ''jig'' the rod up and down automatically! I bought one made in Canada from ''catch on'' that is really simple, compact, and adjustable for $24.00. I got it from Amazon.

I have the Nero, 6 inch. I tried the drill adapter once and it worked fine for a couple of holes in 6 in of ice. My drill was the problem, I think. Using it without the drill is very easy. I sharpen the blades on a Worksharp and that works great too. Cabelas has replacement blades for $15. Great hand ice auger at a reasonable price! Made in Russia, if that matters.

I keep trying to post a pic for the tournament, but no luck so far. I downloaded the image to the computer and then dragged the file and placed it under the logos on the entry form, but it isn't working for me.

Hello all! I live near Richwood, Ohio and I got out on my 1 acre pond last Friday and Saturday. HAD about 3 inches of good ice! Caught 10 fish total. 2 -12inch slab perch, 3 small bass, 1 crappie which I did not stock, and 4 nice hybrid gills.

I used my 18 volt Hitachi with my Nero ice auger this year for the first time. It worked good for two  7 inch holes, then it stripped the clutch on the drill. Not sure why.
