Post by: Minnowhead on January 16, 2013, 05:56:48 PM
Headin to Lake Hamlin near Luddington, Michigan.  Rumor has it they have bluegill the size of hubcaps!  ;D Leaving Jan 30-Feb 3.  Temps are dropping and they already have 3-4" of good ice.  Hoping it gets 6" by the time we get there.

Leaving for Hamlin in the a.m.  8" of ice and the fish are jumpin through the holes! I'll try and post while I'm up there if I get cell svc. They didn't get hammered by the heat/rain like we did.  Hoping to set this up as an annual outing if all goes well.

Ohio team wins 2013 Michigan Ice Open on Hamlin Lake
Fishing was good, many contestants say
Steve Begnoche - Managing Editor

Sean Carlin and Andy Lightfoot of Cleveland, Ohio, credited hard work and pre-fishing for their success in winning the 2013 Michigan Ice Open on Upper Hamlin Lake Saturday.
They beat a team of two brothers from Brooklyn, Michigan, — Isaac and Zach Bivens who said the stars aligned for them Saturday.

A Ravenna team of Bryan Buist and Josh Driesenga got the trophy for the biggest crappie — 1 pound, 2 ounce fish.

Ben Spiegel of Adrian caught the biggest bluegill of the day, a 9-ounce fish that also won him a trophy.

Fifty two-person teams took part.

Fishing was mostly split between the "crappie area" near the Upper Lake's narrows and the bluegill area between Wilson Hill Park and Victory Park.

The top two teams had a strong finish in the bluegill area.

We stayed with Sean and Andy at Hamlin.  Couple of Top Notch Ice Fisherman.  They really worked their tales off to win this big event.  A big congrats to them! Two very unselfish pro's that are very willing to help fellow Buckeye anglers.
