I was out in the campground and confirm the action. The gills liked a lot of action in the jig right at the moment

Why couldn't you just park at the dam and launch from there?

I had the same results in C-5 I was one of 3 people out there after 4 pm last night. Gill bite was non stop untill about 5:30. Got a nice 8 1/4" read ear, so close to a fish O!. got 6 crappie and countless dink gills with a few "eaters". They all went back in. Cuaght all mine in 6 FOW on waxies. Same as OP. gills on the bottom crappies cruisin just above the weeds.

I was thinking about picking one up this year. Any recommendations? Also if you know any one who has a used one they aren't using that would be good too.

My pond is frozen over and will hold a goose! Its only 6' deep though. If the weather stays like this, I bet we will be out there in early December again.

There was a little skim on the retention pond by my work this morning. Reminded me to check on the site. I haven’t been fishing since August. Been chasin’ deer around. Hope I get some meat in the freezer soon, so when the ice comes I won’t be torn between fishing and hunting. I guess there are worse problems to have!

Wow! Those sound like amazing fish. Clearly, by my name, I almost exclusively fish for pan fish. In my lifetime I would like to get into a least a "wild" 11" gill. By wild I mean in a large public body of water. I have been fishing the same farm pond since I was about 14. Every gill in there is a fish-O. I don’t really think farm ponds should count though. I literary have been the only person fishing there for 15 years, maybe with the exception of the owners grand kids. Let me tell you about fun!
I haven’t heard of this friends of nimi thing. Sounds like a great idea. I don’t have a boat so I am restricted to shore only. It really makes me sick when I see all the trash and line that is left behind. Every time I go I usually bring home more garbage than fish. I have considered taking a steel trash can with a raccoon proof lid and leaving it in them main street cove. I don’t know if the rangers would approve or not but anyway some yoyo would probably throw it in the lake anyhow.

I've been hitting some coves too. Using ant jigs tipped with a wax worm. I have been playing with colors this year. Black and pink seem to be out performing yellows, now that the water has cleared up. Weeds are getting thick. The tactic that has been working, with a bobber, is not to let it sit but a slow retrieval. Letting the jig float over all the openings has been increasing numbers for me.
As of 5/18 the gills were setting up on the beds. Caught some nice 7"+ and a lot of rock bass so far this year. I was reading on another forum a guy claims he pulled an 11 3/4" out of nimi a few years ago. I have personally never seen anything over 9 1/4" (my personal best for nimi).
Maybe I will set up another thread to see what others best gill has been at nimi.

Since I'm not going to be in the tournament, I will share my recent lock jaw defeating tip. What I have been doing is hovering the bait just right above them for a few seconds and then raising the rod tip up real fast about 3' and letting the jig tipped with a waxie, flutter down past them. It has been driving them nuts, they will suck it up, on the drop all most every time. Some time you have to bring out the predator instinct in them.

You're right! I was on North Res. last night and a guy showed me his flasher and how it worked. He actualy let me borrow his back up one until his buddies joined. I now fully understand what you were talking about. Still have not made it out to wingfoot.

I wanted to go on the other side over the cristmas trees but I was solo and there were people on the east side so thats where I went.  Ice was solid 3" Caught a handfull of dink gills and an 11" Crappie.  Some guy let me try out is flasher. Thanks again, those things are pretty neat.
