General Discussion / New Season Reminders
« on: December 13, 2018, 02:50:38 AM »
As a new season is upon us we should remember a few things.
1-no ice is ever safe!!  Use caution and always have proper safety gear.

2-use courtesy when on the ice and finding a place to park.

3-when posting a fishing report, please put it in the proper lake section.  It helps everyone see the latest reports.

THANKS EVERYONE!!

Woke up the last couple mornings to heavy frost and light snow.  The season is coming upon us very soon!!  Won?t be long till we hear the crunch of ice under our boots and the sound of auger blades cutting through ice.  Some of the greatest sounds in the world!

General Discussion / Sorry I was out?crappy month
« on: October 23, 2018, 07:55:26 PM »
Sorry guys I haven?t been active much in October.  Been trying to get caught up on everything both in the concrete business and at hone.   Been having knee issues since last ice season and finally got an mri this month.  I got sick of the cortisone shots and fluid draining so I?m going to have surgery in November.  Surgeon said 3-4 weeks and I can be back to normal.  Torn  meniscus and loose cartilage needs cleaned up.  Should be good to go for ice season and a good time to try my Wilcraft.

Soft Water Fishing Reports / April crappie action!!
« on: April 04, 2018, 06:20:30 AM »
Got a few smalls yesterday between rains. At least it felt good to wet a line!  Didn’t get any pics, but nothing was worth taking a pic anyway. They came on a chartreuse and pink 1/64 oz jig I tied up a while back. This weather needs to make up its mind. Rain, snow, hot, cold fish can’t settle into a pattern.  The back and forth needs to stop!

PS, sorry but wanted to start a new topic, the other one was getting long and my hands keep tapping the wrong page and it takes me forever to find the last page. Numbers too small.

General Discussion / Instagram winners!
« on: March 27, 2018, 06:00:18 PM »
There were a lot of really cool pics tagged with icefishohio. Unfortunately only handymanjeff identified his screen name on the posts.  Remember if you’re private I can’t see the posts.  Next season we’ll do this contest a little differently.  But Jeff is the only winner so far as he’s the only one to identify his posts.

Your prize will mail out tomorrow!

Soft Water Fishing Reports / More Crappie Jigs
« on: March 10, 2018, 08:41:29 AM »
After seeing the pink/gray jigs a friend requested some pink/chartreuse ones.  So I tied up some for both of us last night. Planning on Tuesday to try them.  Looks like only free morning i have in the near future.  Some I tied with smaller, sparser tails and others with bigger bushier tails so no trimming is needed if they want a smaller profile.

Here’s what I tied up.  Looking at my wisdom tooth meds gave me the idea.  Not sure why other thread was locked, was going to put pic there.  Now to use it!

« on: February 27, 2018, 07:29:21 PM »
Now the ice is gone (sigh) the contest is closed.  We had some great entries this season and since fewer than 10 posted entries, all will win prizes!!  I will try to get them out before July this year!! ::)  I’ll be sending a PM to those I don’t have addresses for.  Or if you won a prize last year and moved, please PM your new address. Soon as I recover from wisdom teeth surgery I’ll get these out.  I’ll be cleared to drive next week so hopefully then!!

General Soft Water Discussions / Spring Changeover
« on: February 27, 2018, 07:24:47 PM »
With the sad loss of our Ice early this season and some of us already hitting open water I thought the annual changeover was due.  Soft water reports will be at the top until we’re drilling holes again!!

Portage Lakes / 2/14/18
« on: February 15, 2018, 07:41:24 PM »
Hit my spot one last time.  Murky water from runoff and thinning Ice made for a tough day. Limited my mobility. I was alone so I didn’t venture out far on the iffy ice.  Fished couple hours same as day before, but all smalls except one bass on my last drop through the hole. With Water pooling on the ice, and the shoreline deteriorating I thought a nice bass was a good way to probably end my season.  Here’s his pic.

Portage Lakes / 2/13/18
« on: February 13, 2018, 04:08:47 PM »
One of those days today.......3 dinks and 2 nice ones.   Bite and fish were both almost non existent and Ice is deteriorating quickly.  I think tomorrow will be my last day here.  Fished all over today from 4-15 feet and not marking hardly anything.  What I marked, I enticed to bite, but my normally productive hand over fist spots looked like a nuclear wasteland.  It produced one nice bass and nothing else.  Drilled all over and a copper tungsten was only thing working, except the bass came on firetiger.  Ice was 4-5”, but Top 3 were crap Ice and it was not cracking in a good way and shorelines were getting sloppy as I left.  Rain tomorrow afternoon and Thursday with 60 degrees will end it.
