Got some bass over the weekend on a drop shot presentation.  Not moving real fast, but a positive sign they are willing to take a lure!

General Discussion / Thank you, Dave
« on: March 01, 2010, 06:28:02 AM »
I just wanted to say thanks to Dave H for all the time and effort he put into this site.  I didn't find out about it until end of Jan.  Really looking forward to next year already.  The weekly online tourneys are great fun.  Next year I hope to be at the Mosquito event.  I also enjoyed working the Dalton show with you.  Maybe I can do more to help next winter, as my circumstances will be less hectic.  Thanks again for giving all us ice fishermen a local site.  We really apppreciate it, thank you Dave.

General Discussion / LET IT RAIN!!
« on: February 22, 2010, 06:26:18 AM »
Hope this week's forecast NE Ohio holds true.  Let it rain today and tonite, get down to 17 Wed and Thurs nite, by Fri, I'll be back in business.  The 8" of slushy watery snow will turn to a good 6-7" of ice and keep my season alive for at least a couple of weeks! ;D

General Discussion / Snow killing the lakes here. How about you?
« on: February 16, 2010, 06:04:16 PM »
It keeps snowing in Canton--been doing so for over 24 hours now.  All the snow over the last 10 days has taken a toll on the lakes around here I fish.  Deer Creek is inaccessable because of snow.  Dale Walborn in degrading fast.  With the snow from this last storm that may be it for the rest of the year unless we get a rain and a freeze.  So much slush and water trapped on the ice under the snow is eating our ice fast.  Be glad if you don't live in this part of the state.  Western and central Oh were not hit as bad (I think).

How is the ice where you all are fishing?  Would like to know.

Ice Safety!!! / Snow on the ice
« on: February 12, 2010, 03:11:01 PM »
If you go out and there is 18" of snow on the ice, PLEASE be careful.  I was out today and you can't see anything.  There was 8" of watery slush on top of the ice, always use your spud.  You can't tell if there are bad spots in the ice.  Also watch out for old holes, I stepped in one today and turned an ankle, old holes can stay open with all that snow and water laying on the ice.  It was probably my own hole form the day of the storm, just be careful.  Rest often as well, I'm in pretty good shape and my heart was pounding slogging thru all that slush for 15 minutes, we don't want to see anyone having a heart problem on the ice.

General Discussion / wHAT DO YOU FISH FOR?
« on: February 08, 2010, 06:02:47 AM »
I mainly fish for crappie.  Occasionally I target the 'eyes and bluegill.  But the crappie are so tasty, I can't get away from them.  How about you guys?

Atwood / Ice Conditions
« on: February 05, 2010, 07:06:12 AM »
I haven't made it there yet since 2nd freeze.  Had a friend go yesterday afternoon.  5-8" of good ice.  Was fishing by Delroy off of rt. 532.  Crappies are hitting well.  Hope to try it next week.

Was out Friday.  Ice iffy in places, varied form 1 1/2 to 6".  Caught 15 or so nice crappies, and a handful of bluegills.  Don't know what today's rain will do, I'll check it out tomorrow.

General Discussion / Crappie lakes and techniques
« on: January 23, 2010, 08:59:03 PM »
Was wondering where and how everyone fishes for crappie.  I like Deer Creek(Stark Co.) and Atwood.  I mostly vertical jig with minnows and waxies.  I'll go into more detail later, running out of time now.

Bait and Tackle stores / Fin, Feather, Fur
« on: January 23, 2010, 07:49:24 AM »
Fin has a large selection of ice fishing tackle and equipment every year.  I haven't made it yet this year, but a friend of mine has and he says its like usual.  They have a lot of stuff; lures, shantys, augers, and misc. equip.

Inventions / bluegill rig for sniffers
« on: January 20, 2010, 03:30:32 PM »
Sometimes you can see bluegills on your vexilar come up to your jig sniff it and swim away.  This rig will help you get the sniffers.  Tie a one foot piece of 1 lb line onto the bend of your main jig or fly, then tie on a small size 12 hook and tip it with a maggot or 2.  You'll be amazed how many more bluegill and crappie you'll hook into.
