Need to get a new auger , I'd like to get into some eye fishing used to have 4.5" auger but only fished for crappie/gills. Thinking that will be too small for eyes and 8 " would be overkill.Would 6" be the best all around size?

I have a Strikemaster  Mora 4" and love it.  I had a Strikemaster Lazer 8", but sold it b/c it took too much effort to drill an 8" hole vs a 4" hole.

The Lazer is a a better blade unit, but I simply got tired of drilling those large holes.

If I had my preference, I get a Strikemaster Lazer 5" or 6" Auger.

For years I used a 6 inch hand auger and drilled the holes side by side.  Now I just have a 10" gas auger and use that.

If you can afford it, an 8- inch Strikemaster gas is the way to go.  I don't even own a hand auger anymore.

Yes if you can afford a gas auger they are the way to go!  I have a ten inch in case I am on Lake Erie but a 8" would be fine.  Strikemaster makes a great product.

Yea a 6-7" auger would be fine, the also make a handy attachment for cordless drills that fits your auger,i get about 8-10 holes per battery depending on ice thickness.

IA 4 1/2" hole seems small for crappie  . I've had on catfish th
at I couldn't get through a 6" hole.crappie are thick, seems like it would be hard to get out the hole.
