Title: What colors work best in Ohio waters?
Post by: Banker on February 25, 2013, 09:18:25 PM
Was hoping to engage the Pro's on this site with this question. I am usually surprised with what colors work well.

Sunny days I go bright colors orange or yellow, cloudy days I go black or dark green.  It just dawned on me why not try a brown lure on a cloudy day I have every other darn color.

There it is, the color I didn't expect to hear. Anyone else have their color of choice.
I too will be trying brown the next time out. What the hey:)

I can't resist going to mix up some paint and get it a really ugly brown color and give it orange eyes or an orange back.  My new Cleveland Browns lure!  Hope it produces like the cardiac kids and not this team of garbage.

My two favorites for crappie are red/white and green/chartreuce.  I paint the crappie lures myself to get the hues on the green/chart just right.  If I'm fishing for walleye, down here it's hard to beat a firetiger.

You're not kidding on that one. But I'll bet the feel is amazing. It gives me an idea for some of the jewelry my wife never wears!  ;D

Be weary slab. Just cause they don't wear it doesn't mean they won't skin your tallywacker for melting it down ;) would hate to refer to her as ex wife for a few lures.

I would rather see someones gold turned into jigs than it be sold to ripoff places like cashland! 8)

If I was fishing a pure gold jig I would have to use at least 100 lb test line. I would be to scared to lose it. Its the same reason I don't fish sketchy ice. If I go thru and my gear went thru to I would lose a few thousand dollars. I would have to quit ice fishing and I don't want to do that.  ;D

The only place in the USA that I know of that makes true gold plated jigs is Tom's Tackle, who just joined forces with IceFishOhio.com as a sponsor for the upcoming season and this off season. Give Ryan a call 218-280-1904.

Take it for what it's worth, but I can't say enough good things about this company, the Tessier family, and the "Pink Charmer" they sell.
