General Discussion / Tragedy in Cassville WI
« on: July 18, 2011, 06:21:36 PM »
I hope everyone is having a good summer weve been busy up here and David I am working on things for you. It is with a heavy heart that I have to tell you a 13 year old boy from Cassville was electrocuted last week while he was trying to harvest nightcrawlers. I am not sure what method he was using below is a link to one.

http://www.thebassbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=92325

As a retired electrician guys to me mixing electric and wet ground is a dangerous practice, and when you add a child to it is a tragedy waiting to happen as it did in Cassville. My sister has a saying about children "more is caught than taught". While we are teaching our children and others to share in our passion for fishing we also have a responsibility to keep them safe and some shortcuts fall short of this. These children that look up to his will often try to mimic us so teaching by example is important, so when you try one of these shortcuts look around and make sure a child is not watching you from a distance. I wish everyone a Safe and happy summer God Bless and Teach our children to fish SAFELY.

I found your springs if you still need some they are similar to faucet springs. The ones I found are a little smaller but still work. If you interested pm me your address and ill send them to you.

Soft Water Fishing Reports / Re: Key West Fishing Report

Great story Tim some of my favorite fishing memories are from the outer banks of NC with my brother, he is a master at it and I wish the treehuggers hadn't taken over and shut down some of the best fishing this country has to offer. keep up the good work. Dave

It's a sad day here in SW Wisconsin, ice is gone time to pack and store the gear for another year, the 1 1/2 inches of rain was just too much. However as you all know when one door closes another opens, I would love to take the time to write more but I have to get the boat out and ready to hit the Lock and Dam at Lynxville to take part in the walleye run. Take care God Bless. Dave

Well guys I wasn't sure about posting this but you all deserve to know there are alternatives, We are still on the ice up here and with a little luck it will last through the middle of next week. caught several sauger and eyes though not much size to them one 18 inch, the biggest sauger was 12 inch. I drove upriver 70 miles to Lacrosse Wi wednesday and saw 200 to 300 fisherman on the ice trying for panfish in the backwaters. The Walleye bite has been strong at the spillways too (soft water). It will come to an end fast though as they are predicting near record flooding as the thaw approaches. ThaTS  all for now Be safe God bless and go BUCKS. Dave

I'm in SW Wisconsin where the mississippi and Wisconsin Rivers meet. If you're planning a family trip try The Dells off of I90 west of Madison, a lot of indoor water parks to choose from, shopping for the other half, and you can get some great lodging deals in late Jan-Feb  Lake Delton is right there and the Walleye fishing this year has been great but no size as it is the lake that was drained in the floods of 2008 and had to be restocked they did put in a lot of artificial reefs when they rebuilt the levy. Mirror Lake is close by with excellent northern pike walleye and panfish. That time of year you can drive right out on the lake if you do make the trip let me know I might be able to pack the boys up and join you for a couple of days. Dave

OK Russ I'm not trying to make you cringe or rub it in, sad to hear your season in Ohio has come to an end, once again remember those dryer sheets in your shanties to keep the critters out. We are still fishing on 2 feet of ice in 30 foot of water and the walleye and sauger bite has been great here in SW Wisconsin. The bad news is I have been fighting a terrible cold and have not been able to participate this week yet. If any of you diehards want to make the trip let me know. I expect our conditions to hold up through the weekend of the 12th if not longer. Word is the panfish bite has been good but I haven't tried that in 3 weeks now. Take care everyone and please remember to teach a child to fish this summer Dave

Russ,

it is amazing what our kids know and one of my sisters favorite phrases is "more is caught than taught" enjoy her they are truly a treasure. If you want to have some real fun buy her a cheap digital camera and turn her loose, I guarantee you and your wife will laugh and cry when you sit down and look at the pics seeing the world through a childs eyes. It is very rewarding and worth the investment. God Bless and stay safe Dave

I look forward to working with you in the future David by the way we have over 15,000 lakes in Wisconsin with over 6000 of them being named a lot to look forward to. Stay safe as the transition takes place we've already had a couple fall through up here. Dave

Russ If you can find a way to keep it fun for her you have a fishing partner for life. I was kinda disappointed  that my boys didnt want to go out this weekend but when i thought about it we had fished hard the last three so we spent a weekend at home. They say they want to try monday after school so I guess sometimes you just roll with the flow. By the way from the pics it looks like she has the better technique. LOL Dave

Dryer sheets will work too and it smells better in the fall. I put all my other equipment in a big rubbermaid container and store it on a shelf in the garage. Dave
