For liquid cooled snowmobile, they make a device called an ice scratcher that helps keep the high fax lubricated and the tunnel heat exchanger wet on glare ice.

I seen quite a few liquid cooled sleds pulled over off trail with hoods up last year. But it's a rare to not have some snow on ice. 9 times out of 10 you will be fine. Scratchers can help. Yesterday there was a lot of water on ice so it wouldn't have been a issue.

I might just walk out this weekend. Shouldn't be bad pulling a sled on bare ice

Gonna get a little snow this week. No snow on the ice now and yes it will overheat and you can have a hy-fax meltdown even if you have a fan cooled sled. Even a lot of water on the ice wont always keep a liquid cooled sled from over heating. I love my snowmobile for the ice and would take it all day over a four wheeler but it does have disadvantages.

Did talk to John from DB charters and he was very nice and it was nice meeting you. Will be in touch with him and hopefully can pass notes. Fishing has been up and down but sounded like it picked up today.

Can anyone give me a lead on a cheap place to stay for the night? It's a good drive for me so I'd like to be able to fish for 2 days.  Thanks

I think ice should be fine. Might not make a bunch more ice, but should hold what it has, gonna be a couple good cold nights this week so may make a bit more hopefully.
