Title: what an awesome day on Erie
Post by: Bryan on April 12, 2015, 12:19:56 AM
Got my boat put in for the season and trolled 4.5 hours and picked up a 3 man limit, almost all fish were 28" or bigger. Absolutely fantastic day on the lake!
This was my "2nd personal best" at 31"

Nice trip!!! Got a trip to Erie scheduled for late May but with reports like that i may not be able to wait that long. Might have to sneak up for a weekend soon. How's the jig bite?

Great job Bryan. Putting a new floor in my boat and hope to have it up there for the summer by next weekend. Keep hammering them. Still trying to send you a picture of my 13 from ice fishing. Be safe and enjoy.

Thanks guys!
The jig bite has been hot from what I've heard, I personally haven't jigged this year...just been trolling cranks.

I took my wife and one of her friends out with me Saturday, we trolled at noon just long enough to catch a few fish for supper (yeah I have some in the freezer, but there is just something about eating a meal that was swimming less than three hours earlier!) and headed home.
Rather than deep frying our walleye we decided to bake them, a little olive oil on the bottom of a baking pan, line up the fillets, put a couple pats of butter on each fillet, add seasoning (I like blackened), cover with foil, DELICIOUS!

Anyway, here's my wife's friend with her FIRST walleye, 27.5"

I'm a little late with last weekends report, it was a tough bite, we caught fish but had to work for them! Added 5 more "Fish Ohios" to my tally with the 2 largest coming in at 30".
Here is my co-worker with the 30" he reeled in, his personal best and she'll be going on his wall.

There are still some fatties around the islands...just not the numbers like in April. I typically don't fish east of Kelleys so I can't accurately say where the "population" is. But I've heard some guys talking about running to north of Lorraine.

Optfish...please let us know how you do! Weather is looking AWESOME for Saturday! I'll be out with the entire family on our boat...hoping for a walleye "payday"!

Good luck Bryan. Hoping my carpet for my boat comes in today. If not, won't get it until Tuesday. Boo hoo!  Got the fever and can't use the boat yet. May have to hit a headboat Sat. Need to get up there and open up the trailer anyway. Have to wait and see.

Thanks g!
Although tomorrow is "family tear up the walleye day" on my boat, in the future...before hitting up a head boat, give me a call. If I don't have a scheduled charter you can go out with me. Only thing I ask is a donation to the gas tank!

Thanks for the offer Bryan. I got my carpet and have the boat almost all put back together. Will definitely be up there next weekend. One of these weekends when I am up there by myself I'll give you a call. Looking forward to meeting you and donations for gas is no problem. I'll call you when I make it up and see if and where you are fishing. Hope the family outing was a great success.

Late report...went out last Sunday north of Kelley's pulling cranks and spoons for about 5 hours caught 9 but lost one at the boat. None were F-O's so I think the 6 week hog fest is over.
I have a charter trip Sunday and possibly one Saturday so hopefully I can give you guys a great report next week.

Have a great Memorial day fellas, let's not forget about the veterans that made the ultimate sacrifice.

Sunday I went to my usual spot, I had a charter trip from 9 till 3, put 12 in the boat and lost four.
The two young guys never fished for walleye before wound up reeling in the two biggest fish of the day...a 28.5" and 29.5", another awesome day on Erie!

54 walleye caught from my boat in the last 6 weeks! (http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q116/Piper_pilot/20150524_154828.jpg)

Sorry g I hadn't checked this for a while, prior to Nate's trip I had only gotten out once and that was just my wife and I for about 1.5 hours.
Those two nor'easters we had within a month really disrupted things!

Glad the lake has settled down since the gale force winds the end of June. Hope the weather is decent this weekend. Good luck and be safe.

Took the Robertson crew out this past Saturday, caught a dozen keepers and handled well over 20 1 year old walleye babies. Folks...I'm positive we're going to have an even better walleye bounty in a few more years when these fish grow up! I'm hearing constant reports of yearlings being caught!

Thank you!
I guess I should have been more descriptive on my post about the walleye babies. In years prior, ice fishing and soft water fishing, I bet I handled maybe 10 babies...both seasons combined.
In 2015 I caught probably 15 through the ice and probably close to 70 in the boat! And I'm not alone, tons of babies getting caught. I just HOPE they're being gently unhooked and quickly put back in the water.

That's what I thought you meant. And amen to the handling of the the babies properly!

Yeah I noticed the same thing when we were up in may. Don't know that I've ever thrown back more than one or two until this year. Prob had at least 12-15 in 4 days this year. And yes they were released unharmed. Those are the ten lbers our kids will catch ;D or me when I'm old. Now If they could just get rid of the white bass and white perch...

Good job Bryan. Have caught many throwbacks from 3 to 15 inchers this year. My buddy runs charters for Fishermans Warf and told me the shiner netters are hauling as many juvie walleyes as shiners in their nets. The future looks great for the future. Am bringing the boat back up this weekend so I will try and get in touch with you to see if you are fishing. Keep up the good work.
