General Discussion / Re: Lake in danger of being drained
« on: March 11, 2015, 06:09:14 PM »
I hate to see to see any fishery in jeopardy and feel sorry for you guys that fish there. BUT who in thier right mind would build a house or allow 386 homes to be built on a 4mile long dam? All directly involved should pay for reconstruction and not all tax payers. Not to offend any fisherman but i believe the dam residents deserve a landfill. To my understanding most these home owners stand agianst looseing 20ft of water behind thier homes for the new dam.How pathetic. I say the 50+ million that its going to cost should be invested into digging a new and improved lake with no homes. Why is it everytime we have lake issues its a man made lake and man is the culprit?Hopefully those directly involved learn in the end that a little thought and common sense goes further than ignorance.Sorry if i offended anyone but thats my 2cents.

Lake Erie / Re: generator and power drill auger
« on: March 04, 2015, 07:25:18 PM »
Haha, wouldnt see why it wouldnt work.Way more torque in electric than batteries..Id rather hand drill than drag all that out there. But thats me. Although you might be onto something here,im pictureing an electric auger, electric heater and or blanket and a coffee pot maybe a radio. ..And not another person around because of the noise one might make.Lol it wont suprise me if you get feedback from experience  ;D

Thanks Mullygyn, very helpful.Your post steered me back to video tutorials on youtube lastnight.I now have a full understanding of the ducer option.Funny thing is my research lead me to the hummingbird ice units and i am now leaning towards the Hummingbird ice45.This unit the ice45 and the ice55 seem to have every option the vexlars have at a better price.Id love to hear anyones opinion that has used vexlars and hummingbirds ice sonars.                                                                                                                                                               Heres a great rundown of the different vex units for anybody that may be unfamiliar and thinking of purchasing one.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLUeLHtw30s

General Discussion / Re: Thoughts on propane power augers
« on: February 22, 2015, 02:29:50 PM »
Im not sure what this video proves, thats a gas eskimo, propane jiffy. Poorguy with the jiffy gets wet feet.I bet he wished he bought a Eskimo HC40 propane after he sat down to fish.Wonder if both had new or sharp blades? Hillbillly youtube comparison videos can be so misleading.. I want to race this guy(20holes) with my Eskimo propanehc40 and compare clothes dryness, deafness and a back pain test afterwords. I win! And have an extra 100 bucks in my pocket!

Jiffys are $499 and weigh approx 39lbs, eskimos are $399 and weigh approx 32lbs. Jiffys are higher geared and "APPEAR" to go faster, but run on 1 blade.Witch means the auger has to turn a full 360degrees to complete a cutting turn. The Eskimos "APPEAR" to run alot slower but they cut with two blades witch is why they are geared lower. They complete a cutting turn every 180degrees..With that said they both cut at an equal pace.So dont let the water flinging jiffy fool ya at its high speed..However i prefer either over a gas machine cause   theres less carb issues, fumes and who wants to smell gas if you overspill or spring aleak. One little propane bottle can keep ya warm in your heater and drill your holes and are cheap n easy to refill...SO,im suggesting an eskimo propane due to cheaper price and lighter wieght but i might just be a weak tighta$$ haha? Hope this helps.
