well folks since ice is gone its boat time and its always good when doing maint on the boat, so before venturing out on the big pond i decided to change my impeller , its been 4 yrs and the old 86 tower of power 90 hp merc said change me.  and heres what i found, one vane missing a chunk and stuck in the discharge side. beat cracked and definately needed changed. 34 $ PART  from local dealer easy fix. i noticed a burp in the pee stream when runnin was first indication, and longer wait time for stream to show up, so now i can scream across the lake with peace of mind...   dont let yours get bad without knowing it .

I would say the vast majority don't. It is an easy fix too.

Yep. Did mine in the fall 2015. But only went out twice last year on non electric motor lakes.   So mines good as new, but you're right, every few years is cheap insurance, especially since my motor is a 175 hp, they're not cheap to fix!

Mine is a 175 Ficht Johnson.  Problematic motor, but once you do the updates/upgrades it's great. Never had a problem since.  Helps that I have a great mechanic who's also a friend!!
