Title: Best Bet for Saugeye
Post by: toadfish on December 18, 2010, 03:39:36 PM
I am planning a run to Indian for saugeye aftor work on Monday.  Where is my best bet?  I usually fish at Blackhawk, moundwood or northfork.

I would also ad cranberry and Dunns pond. It was a bad fall for the Saugeye and the lake was low all summer. I hope it doesnt screw up the fish-in. I hope they turn on soon.

Keep us posted on how you do.

A little bird told me Dunn's might be looking better. However, I was not there myself today, I went to another lake.

Thanks for the advice.  Might try Dunn's.  Fished there last year without a hit.  Should have added Dream bridge to the mix as well.  Seems nobody has fished there for a couple years.  I hope this year brings some fish my way.

Can you fish Dream bridge? is there current in the area, and is there some place close to park?

How thick was the ice at dream bridge?

Dream Bridge is great during open water and probably is good through the ice but they had a few snow mobiles go through last year because of the current flow.

If things stay the way they are going as far as cold it could be ok this year but i would be very carefull!

Got skunked at Blackhawk 12-20-2010.  Fished about 3 hours in the evening.  Had one hit and had one on and about 1/2 way to the hole and it came unbuttoned.  Watched firefish532 catch 2 nice ones when he was only 20 yards away.

Stay off dream bridge, its just a bad bad place to ice fish, way too  much current goes through there and the ice varies way too much just to think it's safe. Yes snowmobiles go through or under the bridge but to camp out under there is a different thing. Try O'conners or North Fork is what some call it.

Dec 21.
I got off the lake @ 9pm. I fished 700' north off of the point of lake ridge island in the pseudo river channel and picked up 4 small saugeye and my buddy caught a small Pike (first pike I've seen with my own eyes out of I.L.) perch are in there but all very small the bottom is there isn't all muck might be sand?
this area is one of the better areas. also you might try in front of Old field beach
