I won't be ice-night fishing this year. But I will be getting my equipment together this spring, summer and fall. That way I can "road test" everything before first time out.

Thanks guys, I've just never seen anyone post about night-time ice fishing. No way I'd ever be out there by my self. I look at ice fishing as a buddy fishing hobby with safety as my number one concern.

One more thing, do you light the water under where you're fishing or just fish your bait in the dark?

This is my first year ice-fishing and have only been twice (friends farm pond). I'd like to see a beginners thread that shows (pictures and videos) on how to use the ice fishing poles and that thing they call a vex. Also some pics or vids on shanties (inside and out) plus the sleds they are pulled on. I'm talking about how the shanties pack up on sleds or even the ones built on sleds.

Hi, first post and just found this site. Anybody have a $ figure on starting up for a first timer. I'm talking the poles to the single or double person tent shanty?  Also these will be used mostly in the backyard on a 1/2 acre pond.
