General Discussion / Re: NO ICE THIS YEAR
« on: January 08, 2020, 08:50:23 AM »
I haven't completely given up hope but it's not looking good. Unless we get a major pattern shift in the next couple weeks we are pretty much screwed. I have zero faith in the 7 day forecasts, much less the long term. The weather is so screwed up the last few years I don't think anyone has an idea what it's gonna do. And our last ice in the Indian lake area is usually right around valentines day. The days just start getting too long and the sun angle starts increasing after that. If we don't have a really good base by then it's not happening. So fingers crossed for some local ice but I'm not gonna sit around and wait for it. Heading north on the 17th. Hopefully I'll come back to winter...

Alum Creek Dock Tournaments / Re: Final Dock Tournament of the Year

David do you still have to have fished the reg tournaments to be able to fish the season end tourney? I work every sat so I haven't made one this year but if I don't go to st clair on Sunday I'd consider coming to alum.

I was up about a month ago. Did really well off metro park. Was trying to get back up this week. Gonna do a day trip either Thursday or Sunday if I can find someone to go. If you get into em would you mind letting me know? Maybe save me some searching. 9 ft of water using small rattle spoons tipped with shiner heads was the most productive for bigger fish last time I was up. Snow covered areas seemed better too. Good luck

Indian Lake / Re: Ice conditions??

I fished yesterday. Found 4 1/2 inches a couple places but it's not great ice. Shot full of air bubbles. Edges are dicey in a lot of places. With heavy snow, rain and then warm temps, I can't see it being fishable for long. I heard someone went through yesterday. I'm done. Did manage a bunch of gills, some nice crappies and 2 nice perch.

I made it out today too. Started fishing about 1. Bite was pretty good at first but slowed down after the snow started. 2 keeper eyes plus 2 shorts and dumped a few. 8 keeper crappie and 4 tank gills 9+. Caught a bunch of white bass too. Most came on a small rattle spoon. Ice was 5-6 where I was. Edges are sketchy. I walked off a dock. Should have left earlier but didn't. Awful drive home...
Calling for 2+ inches of rain the next 2 days. Fat lady might be warming up. Gotta work the next 4 days then I'm off to Saginaw. Be safe out there.

This is second hand but from what I hear you can't get on right now. There is still ice in areas but open water in current areas and the edges are pretty much gone. If you get over there to check it out please post your observations.

I know there were guys out on the marina ice on Tues. But you can always drill a hole off the docks if its still got ice on it

2020/2021 On-line Tournament! / Lake st clair perch
« on: February 06, 2019, 09:41:34 AM »
With the pictures unable to post for awhile I hadn't bothered to put in any entries this year. Gotta get at least one in. 11 3/4 perch. Lake st clair. Rattle spoon tipped with shiner head.

Anybody else looking for 1 last ice outing, lake st clair is putting up a good show right now. After some mediocre fishing around here since the cold snap, we decided to head north for a couple days. Kept 110 perch, most between 9 and 12 inches, in a day and a half between 2 of us . Lots of smaller fish too. Spoons tipped with shiner heads took most of the bigger fish. Got some on jigs too.
They've had some melting too but most of the places I saw were 8 inches of ice or more. I'm gonna try to get up there one more time if my schedule and the weather permit. Be safe out there.

Indian Lake / Re: Thickness update??

Pm me your address fshman. I'm tired of walking all over indian. Lol.
Anyhow, I was out today. Guys fishing all 3 pull offs on long island. I went out on the 3rd pull off on the right hand side and the ice was fine. Edges were solid and there was 5+ inches in the 3 places I checked. Other places aren't so good. 2 of my favorite spots were absolute garbage on the edge. Couldn't fish one and had to walk out on a dock to get on the other. 6 inches once you got away from the bank. No one on north fork. Moundwood had open water where there was 6 inches on tue. So a spud is def still needed but you can fish if you use caution. I'd stay away from any current areas for at least another couple days. Fishing was decent. Ended up with about a dozen keeper gills and crappie. Be back out sun

They've had signs up for a couple years. Lots of people park over there but I have heard of guys getting tickets. Not sure if it's true but...
