Hmmm, heavy, sinks fast, has a nice shiny flutter as it falls, but Im not sure where you put the hook on it?? oh wait a minute..its tied to a string and gets jigged to attract the fish to your short rod, is that how it works??? LOL

Bummer, a better story might be you took it off to wash your hands and forgot it at a business lunch...

Good luck explaining that one...

Its been hard finding any keepers according to the locals who have been beating it daily. Once we get ice, they will have been all sore mouthed up there, LOL. I had a decent day up there about 2 weeks ago but again, very few keepers.

General Discussion / Re: Ice fishing line
« on: December 04, 2011, 02:20:16 PM »
as a long time fly fisherman, where the floro fever got started, me or any of my friends were never able to tell any difference by using floro and it costs more, had more slip throughs and seemed more brittle around rocks. so my question to you all is has anyone ever really found a difference in using it??

I just ordered a bunch of Vicious 2 and 4 lb line in the high vis so I can see it better, anyone ever able to tell if this works any better or not? last year I used several name brands in clear mono and all of it really sucked... lots of memory, couldnt see the line, bad knots, froze up etc. This is why i went with the Vicious copolymer line as it has hardly any stretch, no memory issues and is tough as nails ( I been using Vicious on my tournament catfish reels for the last 5 years, swear by it...)

In softwater I mostly fish smallies in local streams and lots of catfish tournaments on SW ohio lakes and the Ohio River.

In hardwater, its mstly been gills  but I love crappies and perch when I can get them, I never eat anything so they all go back or if Im with someone who wants them, great. Im hoping to do more jigging ths year and get some saugeyes at Indian

General Discussion / Teaching high schoolers a new hobby....
« on: January 26, 2011, 07:22:07 PM »
a friend of mine and myself taught about 15 local HS kids how to ice fish today. It was the Environmental Science class at the local vocational HS, ( Miami Valley Career tech ctr) , They have a 1 acre pond on the property and after a short safety lecture and a quick How to do it, we headed out, North wind made it rough for a few underdressed but they built a nice bon fire and ate smores while the rest of the kids were in class!! ( I wish I had class' like that when i was in HS)  right away one of the non fishing  kids nails a 15" LM on a Jiggin Rapala and was strutting around like he owned the place, way cool!! several other kids were totally into it and even brought there own stuff, It was a tough bite, the kind of day where you mark fish like crazy but cant get them to eat, or if you did, the kids were slow on the hookset, only a few bluegills were landed but a great time was had by all!
I suggest if you have the oppertunity to take a kid out and show them a new hobby....You wont be sorry!

in almost 40 FOW, and when the schools came through, they were in the bottom 4-5 ft, we were trying for walleyes, but none seen. Ice was mostly around 4-4.5" but the spot we got the most fish was more like barely 3",with sevral inches of fresh snow on top. used the shanty to displace the weight.. Yes, good fighters all the way to the hole!

Fished with a newbie hard water friend, Scott, a public lake not to far from Dayton, marched a long ways toward deeper water and after moving around a bit, found  some nice big whitebass, taken on Jiggin Rapalas and shad rapalas, firetiger and perch colored.  Took ( and released ) 14 fish from 14" to almost 17", each hooked a few more and missed a bunch of hits.   screeen would be blank on the Vex for 12-15 minutes then a school would come through, bam, bam, a double almost everytime, then nothing for another 10-15 minutes when the school would come through then bam, another double, pretty cool, This lake is not known for the white bass but it does have a few and big ones at that...
Here is pics of me and Scott with one of the better fish we had caught.

Anyone else ever find bigger white bass like this??
