I'm on long lake now,5" clear black ice, lots of people fishing,no worries

It may be 5” in the immediate area where you are but at least two people have posted now about finding areas with only 3” to 3 ½”  on Long Lake and I personally know of two other people that have found those or similar areas.  Please do not get people overconfident.  Those without firsthand knowledge of the ice on Long Lake specifically where they are planning on going need to be very careful with the warm temps, sun and wind combined.

See that Check-in is at 6:30.

What is the Start/Release time?

Sounds like Nixmkt spots are on the back side of north reservoir!!!😁 I'm going hole hunting tomorrow!! Dead give away!! I'm onto to you Tom!!

Gonna be difficult to find em. Those ones are camouflaged.   ;)

It is true that you will never be able to please everyone and your decisions are only ones that matter.  Just having a hard time comprehending that the MAJORITY of the fishing field requested that the allowable fishing area on North be reduced to only approximately half of the reservoir and then that same MAJORITY of the fishing field collectively changed their minds and requested the entire reservoir area be opened back up.

ATTENTION TOURNAMENT FISHERMEN ,AT THIS POINT ICE CONDITIONS ARE MAINTAINING AND REPORTS ARE GOOD SO FAR,6-8" OF ICE ON LONG LAKE AND NORTH RESERVOIR. I'M GOING TO ALLOW FISHING ON THE ENTIRE NORTH RESERVOIR SINCE CONDITIONS ARE STABLE. YOU MUST PARK AT LONG LAKE BAITS OR ACROSS AT THE ODNR PARKING LOT,NO EXCEPTION. WALKING NORTH RESERVOIR ONLY.THANKS

Sorry Nate,  realize it is difficult but making major changes back and forth like this at the last minute is not very good.

Also, the ice on Long Lake is not that thick overall but variable.  There are some areas that are only 3 ½”.
North Res. is closer to that overall but there also are a few open holes on North too.

just got my waxys at pet supplies plus     8)

Hope you're planning on giving the tourney sponsor Long Lake Bait & Tackle some business too.

Some kind of map with the fishable area outlined may help. Just general map with a day of call on areas that ark known to be unsafe.
Rethinking my game plan after knowing you can't fish all of north. But not exactly sure what parts of the lake will be able to be fished.

Not my call but assume a line basically parallel to PLX DR just touching the back (West side) of the moat would be the easiest to see limit.  Essentially stand on the shore end of the ramp dock and look north to the back side of the moat and that's the line.  Maybe use east side of the large point on the north shore as the end of the line from the moat north.  Maybe use the parking lot light pole beside the ramp as a marker looking south from the back of the moat.
Haven't checked all over and no guarantee but the only bad ice aware of at North other than the springs was the SE corner from the island by the inlet from West Res. over to the outlet down to Long. Good part of that may have firmed up though too.

..Also please bring a bucket to place your fish in with water for weigh in. ...

Sorry Nate, you posted before I could finish editing.

And fish need to be alive at weigh-in?

9
We will fish long lake and north reservoir from the odnr to portage lakes drive, ...

So half of North including the deeper water is off-limits?

So which Portage Lakes are included for this tourney?  Maybe just missed it but can’t find it listed anywhere.  Pretty critical information assume most people would like to know beforehand.  Jerry at Long Lake Bait & Tackle told me on Thursday that it was on Long Lake only.  Yesterday someone else told me he was almost positive both North Res. and Long.  If so does that also include Hower Lake?  Any others?

Looking like you called it right Ntoiceman36.  Tip of the hat to you.  Glad the ice is going that direction.

Wingfoot will be fishable we may have to limit areas, people are already fishing wingfoot

???  Did you read fishingful's report and look at his photos?  Open areas have grown substantially during single digit temps. Forecast is still below freezing but steadily increasing temps the rest of the week.

I apologize for not getting the rules posted in a better format, I work 60-70 hours per week and spent my days off obtaining permits, sponsors, having fliers printed, banners, delivering those fliers and banners to all the sponsers, make arrangements for donations, advertising ,making phone calls, emails, and the list goes on and on. But I am very sorry for dropping the ball on this matter and will work hard in the future to correct it.

No question it takes a huge amount of time and effort to organize and prepare for a tourney, vastly more than most people realize, and you are to be commended for doing so.

... Rules are posted under the pan fish series board and copies will also be handed out at the check in station. ...

Well finally found an old thread with rules from last year then some clarifications way down in the responses - such as what actually is the required safety equipment and that partners must stay within talking distance of each other.  You'd added perch and changed the number of fish weighed in other odd location posts.  You also changed the check-in location in a different post.  Anything else changed?  Seems a pretty convoluted way to provide rules for an upcoming event.  Can't you provide a easily found 2016 complete list of rules before the event?

Check in for the nimisila event will be at parking lot c-5 the one with the boat ramp, long lake baits will be there at check in and throughout the day to service your bait needs, PLEASE support him,he has been a great support to this event, now let's give a little support back, thanks fellow fisherman, let's get ready.

Rules will be same as last year with the following exception 1. Perch are permitted at weigh in. 2. Total of 10 fish may be weighed in with a maximum of 5 being crappies

Parking Lot C-5 does not have a boat ramp. Will check-in actually be at Lot C-5 or at Lot C-1 (Ramp at north end) or Lot C-6 (Ramp at south end) or Lot at Main St. Ramp or Campground  Ramp?

What are rules from last year?
