Finally got on today! 3inches max and not totally safe but I had all my safety gear. Set up in 11 feet of water and started marking active fish instantly. Caught a few dinks then started marking crappie up 6 feet. Bam big hit, I set the hook, and bam my rod snaps Ended up pullling two 12-13 inch crappies out and had to call it a day because that was the only rod I had on me. My best panfish rod! Oh well, Im going to give it a week to let the ice get real thick now that I got my fix out.
I went out to the deep ponds near me that I fish when I cant get out and walked out to the middle! 3 inches here. First time I have ever been on clear ice like this before! Its like looking through glass. Gave me the feeling that this week of cold might make the ice season with a great base and the temps for next week are freezing as well! Ill be pulling the shanty out to the ponds tomorrow for some crappie and gills!
I have several golf course ponds I fish and there seems to be close to an inch on a few of the smaller deep ones. Should be on thursday afternoon for sure
I got onto my pond for alittle but it still isn't ready. I hauled my new frabill commando .25 mile to the pond and the ice was an inch in some spots because of the snow. I found alittle patch near shore in 5 foot of water that was 3 inches thick, but it just didnt feel right so I packed it home. Hate doing that but its for my own safety. Be careful out there until the ice gets thicker. Expecially watch out for the snow on the ice!!!
Well tonight was the last of this warm stuff. As of tomorrow morning we will be making ice slowly this week, and next week we will be in the teens and twenties. Too bad this warm spell messed the season up pretty badly, but there will be ice soon enough.
I went out on wingfoot today. Ice looked pretty good just was alittle nervous because nobody else was out. Also where does anyone fish here. looking to get a few slabs on ice there. Oh also might go out saturday anyone else going out. I'd meet up
