Does anyone know if the marina had any ice on before this snow. I hope not. we should be making good ice now. Temps to stay below freezing for at least the next ten days.

Great day. How do you get to where guys park to go out of crane? Just follow Park Rd. 1 back to the end? What is the closest bait to there? Going to join you fellows next weekend.

Thought that maybe you might have marked some smaller fish or maybe even caught on by accident.

thanks Eye. Now that the limit will be down to 4 fish are there any perch to be had out there as well? I'd hate to drive 3 hrs and be done fishing in a couple of hours if they bite good.

would you be interested in a Hummingbird 797c2si? I've had it about 5 years. I works perfect. That is a side imaging unit with GPS. I also have the Hot Spots fishing map chip. I'm pretty sure I have the books and might even still have the box but I'm not sure about that. I could use some extra money right now and would sell for $500 firm. If you are interested let me know. If you wait till the water is soft I can't guaranty I'd still sell it. I love that thing. I just couldn't afford the big ones.

Thanks Eyewall. Just ordered some chains they'll be here Thurs. if we have to move to find fish. should I try significant depth change or just a new area. I know a major depth change can be a pretty big move. How early can you buy bait in the area of Catawba?

I'm going to try and come up this next weekend. I haven't fished the big water in 20 years. I have 4X4 quad and all the gear and a nice tow sled. Which location would be best for someone first time out as far as safety, finding fish and general good time? Are chains required or just nice? Where do people park at Crane? Looks like the weather is going to cooperate with colder temp this week and next. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I think ice fishermen are the reason the planned path is the east side of south bass to millers. I theory that should kill us.

If this report is correct, they will stay on the east side of s. bass and go to millers. That shouldn't be too bad. The weather forecast for next ten days looks good for closing up cracks and firming things up good. I hope so I'm planning a 3/8 trip.

Trying to find out about Erie myself. At St Clair ( I lived there for several years) I always liked the area near 8 mile. That area has much closer access to the deep water. The area near Ford's cove is good. Nice reef out front that is walkable. Go strait out from the big tower past the second Buoy. If the weather is bad there is a lot of canals and channels around the marinas to kill some nice pannies. My largest gill ever came out of Ford's cove 13.5 inch 1.25 pound monster.

Knew there must be some good reason. My buddy and I are planning a trip up from the Dayton area later in the month. He has a 4x4 quad and I have all the gear. I see everyone talking about Crane. Where does everyone park to go out of that area and is there a trail marked? Should I just follow the tracks of others? What size raps have been working. I have a pretty good selection but might be kindof short on the larger ones.

I haven't fished this area of the lake before. My experience is mostly the Breast Bay area. I never hear of anyone fishing the area east of the Cat. possibly middle harbor reef ,Marblehead Kelly's. Is the ice over there bad, no fish or what? I would think those area would be good if the ice is good. This year I would think the ice would be good. Any Info?
