Title: First time MN. trip advice
Post by: Garyoutlaw on January 19, 2016, 04:48:26 PM
My Brother & I have a sleeper shack booked with Sportsman's lodge at Zippel Bay & wondered if anyone had advice to help our first trip be a good one in Gopher country ?

Any local attractions, food or tackle shops a Fishhead would appreciate

I fished at Zippels Bay 15 years ago. There was a lot of Sauger, Walleye and Perch. You will even get a eelpout which you cut the center piece out of the head and it will be the size of a scallop and tastes like sea bass or scallop.

The water is stained at least it was then so pink jigs and pink glow jigs worked best. Deadsticks with minnow also worked well.

I was there when it was 38 below with windchill so you really have to wait to go number 2 and then run to the shanty that has a 5 gallon bucket with a plastic bag and toilet seat.

Also, You will see bald Eagles flying around so dont leave your fish outdoors.

Finally, If your staying in a sleeper shanty be careful as the foam bed i was sleeping on slid down and caught on fire with the heater. Almost choke us to death Keep a vent open.

Good luck and let us know how you do.
