Thinking of heading up first thing in the am... I know most of the ponds down here in Dayton do not look good with about 2" of water on top of them, but I know IL didnt get the rain we did down here, any good reports from today?? Panfishing is the plan with spikes, minnows and waxies.

Just curious as what everyone thinks about sunny vs overcast days for panfish, it really seems to me the brighter, sunnier the day, the better I do on panfish but wondered what folks thought from all of you with many more years under your belt then myself.
I might add the sunnier the day, the higher in the water column I seem to find the gills at least. Thoughts on that are welcome as well!

Today, me and Pondfin@tic ( Ryan) met up at Kiser, started shallow and kept working deeper, everyone in the upper 1/3 of the lake. at 1 time over 15 shanties out from the campgrounds. Then Tin Guppy ( Rusty) called me and said he was on his way, when he showed up we all talked about hit and miss spots as we hadnt had but 2 bites in the first few hrs, then we headed to a spot/area TinGuppy suggested and Ryan drilled a hole and dropped a camera and saw several fish so we parked 3 shanties on the area and over the next 3 hrs, managed 3 nice crappies including a 14+" . and about 40 bluegills, Rusty kept about 15 of them and they were all nice 7-8.5 inchers. all caught on a multitude of things but mostly jigs and waxies or spikes. Ice was between 5-6+" everywhere we drilled but as always, follow someone elses tracks and always be careful!!

Roads are all plowed through the park, some still snow covered though, ice is good everywhere we went although we stayed away from a few darker spots, ice was 6-7" and solid. some snow on the ice in some spots and blown clear in others. Fishing was poor today for us. at least 2 dozen shanties and groups of fishermen up on the upper end, out from the beach area, we were much closer to the dam.

Looking to head up tomorrow and havent seen any reports on any of the websites in the last week since the snow hit, anyone know if the ice is good under all the snow? are the roads around the park open? and lastly any one catching any??
Thanks, Salmonid
