Make sure you aren't depending on your auger to check the integrity of the ice.

Think of the mechanics of using and auger. You must remain stationay in one spot while exerting a great deal of pressure on the ice sheet just inches away. You significantly increase the potential for a life threatening situation as a result of being ill-equipped.

Be sure to check the ice as you move along in short intervals with a spud or chisel.

ive got a welding certification class at night.. tig/mig etc... So I made a real nice long bar iron chisel on one end and a nice flat punder on the other.. So ive got a back up when my auger fails and also I can beat the ice to death and make sure I dont fall in
