Title: Drive around the lake
Post by: wapak ice dawg on December 26, 2017, 04:40:06 PM
I drove around the lake today to do some spot checking, although for the most part the lake is locked in the ice was still unsafe in all areas I checked, the max ice I found was just over an inch thick or thin. I checked Long Island, Moundwood, Turkey Foot, Cranberries and Blackhawk, hoping Friday will bring better results. We're in the in-between season, the rivers have too much ice to fish the walleye runs and the lake is unsafe to icefish. :P

Thanks for the report.  I was going to head that way today, but will hold off until Friday.  Staying at home and trying Grand lake tomorrow since I have other errands to do.  These single digits temps should lock things in pretty solid since there is not much snow on the ice.

Appreciate the report. Ice should thicken up nicely with the low temps.

I should be over Friday also, I'll have my son in-law with me, I don't know how long we will be able to stay, this will be his 2nd time on the ice and as we all know, you can only stay out as long as your gear will let you. I have 3 shanties but once that cold gets in your bones, you're done fishing. I just hope I can drop him in on the fish and we have a good time, they don't get ice in Virginia where he lives but they do have a plentiful deer population  ;D

Good luck Fri. Hope your son-in-law stays warm long enough for you to catch some fish.
