Title: advice for Michigan ice fishing trip
Post by: icefshrman31 on December 26, 2013, 02:02:43 PM
Hello,     My Lake of the Woods, Mn ice fishing trip has just been wiped out by the upcoming -50 wind chill temps. Anybody ever try Cadillac Lake in Michigan or Lake Mitchell or Houghton Lake. Trying to come up with something on short notice for my son and I. Thanks for any first hand
in-put!!!

What a WILD coincidental respnose !!! I just got off the phone with BOB LEE. The folks at Lyman's gave me his phone #. He said there were some guys from Ohio heading up besides me. Well, I guess your vote is for Houghton Lake. My son and I will be up Saturday and stay through Wednesday or Thursday. I don't see any way we can handle -50 wind chills and the 30 MPH winds at UPPER RED LAKE and LAKE of the WOODS. Bob said something about come up and enjoy a bonfire. Is he putting on the bonfire, or is it your bunch? We wouldn't want to intrude. Do you normally catch a fair amount of fish ? THANKS so much for your reply !!!

My fiancee and i are currently up at fletchers pond, outside of hillman michigan. We drove up yesterday and fished this morning. this morning we caught 3 bass over 16 in. and a nice 32" pike.
Were going to be here until the 1st as were getting married on the Ice in-front of Jacks Landing on Saturday.
13" of ice- down side there is just as much snow as there is ice on the lake. a lot of water coming up because of the snow. major slush in the area we were fishing.
recommend 4x4 ORV or snowmobile if your not renting a shanty from anyone.
There is single digits predicted for Sunday night and thru much of early next week so that should help freeze up the slush zone.
Fletchers is a pike / bass lake, panfish can be had but not the top target fish, nor easy to locate.
Bass season closes dec 31st.
where ever you go, you have a good time!
