Title: marinas or the lake
Post by: dblbrldave on February 14, 2014, 11:06:51 AM
I will be at a meeting on catawba island on tuesday the 18th. a coworker and i may hit the ice after. We will probably get done around 3 or 4.

I was wondering if anyone was doing any good in westharbor, family has a boat in one of the marinas? It would be a very quick move from the meeting.
I have not seen many reports about the harbors.

Or would it be better to hit the lake?

We will be walking either way.

I'm going to be staying on West Harbor this weekend and probably poking around a bit there on Sunday.  I'll let you know if we find any honey holes.

I know they did very well on gills early ice on east harbor.

I think since the Walleye are on fire that most are fishing for them

I would think you would do well.

Keep us posted.

Drilled about 8 holes in different areas near the public boat ramp in West Harbor.  Fished all the areas where I catch a lot of fish during the summer but got skunked.  I was trying all different jigs and had minnows, night crawlers and wax worms to throw at them but no dice.  Maybe you'd have better luck closer to the mouth of the channel.  Not sure.

Mostly ten inches or more thorughout the harbor.  There was one spot by the number 17 navigational beacon where the ice was only about 5" with little to no good, clear ice so be careful if you head into the channel.
