Title: ice conditions around put in bay
Post by: skidooguy on March 06, 2014, 07:59:48 AM
Goodmorning.
I am looking at running from Canada over to put in bay by snowmobile. I don't know if the ice breaker has been running or were it runs as well as ice conditions. We are looking at running to Pelee island and then across to put in from there. Is there anyone out fishing in this general area that can give me some info. Would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The icebreaker had been running from the downtown docks, towards ballast, then towards open water on the east side of south bass. Whatever you do, stay west and STAY AWAY from the ice directly between Middle Bass and South Bass, lots of current therefore THIN ICE!

Tentative plan head to big chicken island from there to rattlesnake island from there we should be able to see the channel between middle bass island and south bass island clear as day. If anyone has any other info to add that would be great.
Thank you

Enter Put In Bay on one of the ramps on the west side, or the state park. If you try to go through the channel between Middle Bass and South Bass to enter on the north side downtown, you're probably going to get wet. I can't stress this enough...do not go in between Middle Bass and South Bass!

Trust me we will avoid that area.
Just trying to figure best way if we should go down and enter from the south west area.
We went to Pelee Tuesday and that wasn't bad at all so we are going to stay west as stated and hit middle sister and work south east from there to the bay. I would like to go to main land Ohio as well so I can say I crossed Erie entirely!!!! Anyone want to meet us and guide us in from middle or east sister area!!!!! We will buy you lunch.
