Title: 3/17/14. fished today on ice!
Post by: slabslayer on March 17, 2014, 12:23:14 PM
Drove around Nimi and checked it today. Edges were really bad, some places even planking was not an option. Holehopper and I found one area on the north end at the boat ramp we could get on and that was it. We were catching nice redear, gills, and crappie.  Chartreuse/green and silver were the best colors. We were fishing in 6-10' of water with the fish 2-4' below the ice. I think with the rain tomorrow night and Wednesday, tomorrow will be the last day for sure,  IF we can even get back on tomorrow. The ice was cracking and popping and not in a good way. There was a pucker factor even though the ice was still a good solid 6+" where we were fishing, but even though it's cold that Sun is very powerful this time of year.

My shanty is already put away for the year. Tomorrow is the last day I'm even going to try it, if I can even get out. We'll see what the Sun did to the ice earlier this afternoon. I'm thinking it will be 50/50 if I can get out. Have just enough bait for one last trip. Looks like this weekend will be putting all the ice gear away and starting to get the boat ready for April.

Most of all, be safe out there. I'd hate to hear ya took a drink. But good luck if you do get on the ice. See ya on the open water.
