I Know it can be dangerous leaving off the point due to currents around mouse island til the ice gets really thick. Does anyone know if its safe to depart anywhere near the point yet? Thanks in advance.

IMO, There is NO such thing as "SAFE" ice. ALWAYS inspect your own ice and carry a spud bar.
